Did you know that Union people built the pyramids? It was originally designed as a cube. Each shift did a little less till the last said 'throw a rock on top and lets go home'

I don't blame the company...there arnt a lot of people working too hard for those big salaries. By cutting 1000 jobs, they save the remaining jobs in CT.

The race to the bottom is on!!! All of you who think Unions are overpaid will soon see your own pay cut. Unions brought about the Middle Class in the USA. They fought for fair pay, benefits, and a 5 day work week. Benefits that soon were enjoyed by a majority of workers. All of which we take for granted. With the loss of Union strength, all workers will be subject to replacement with lower paid workers. We can't comepte with nations that pay a Dollar a day. We can't compete with shacks and mud huts, workers who are happy to work in dangerous and unhealthy places. Corporate greed has sent our factories overseas, from electronics to furniture and textiles. Where will the jobs for our children and grandchildren come from?? There won't be jobs for them. Your children will live a harder life than you do, all because our politicians and corporations sold off our manufacturing sector for short term profits. Yahweh has spoken. Watch it happen.

Grampy, nice thing to tell your grandkids. They'll probably grow up to be idiots or tell people that their grandfather was an idiot. Lets play the blame game. When a NON UNION shop goes to China, I suppose that's the union's fault too. You are really bright. All of you BIG mouths who believe that union workers make too much are the same BIG mouths who think that they deserve a raise. The only raise you will get is off your ass and out the door!

Typical union response. The company (and the entire industry) is losing orders. Sales are down. It is already 25% more expensive in Connecticut than in Georgia, 40% more expensive in Connecticut than in Japan. Foreign airlines require work to be done in their geographical area so that their workers benefit. And the state and the union offer "givebacks" based on conditions that may not happen. After all this, they still expect PWA to employ workers that willhave no work to perform and pay them more than they would have to pay other workers. Shades of the auto industry and the thousands of workers that were paid to report to empty halls and do crossword puzzles because of "contracts". Bravo to PWA and UTC to stop some of this nonsense before its goes to far, ala Detroit.

unions were important in the old days. they were needed to protect workers from disaster. now, however, and probably thanks to unions, laws protecting workers have been enacted and are working very well. so, what has happened? unions have done their job, now it is time for them to go away. they have become a greedy big business, sort of like the pigs in "1984"

Bank failures at an all time high because of poor management, but they got their bonuses anyways. Great to fail so hugely and still get rewarded. Is that a unions fault too? Get a grip people. The real culprits here is the corporate hiearcy. The power mongers who control all our lives, they give not a wit for anyone, you or I, and are happey to take every cent they can away from us.

Gee, no chance that bank failures could be the fault of the government sticking their noses in and forcing banks to write mortgages they shouldn't have written. If I am a bank and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac say "go ahead and write anything, don't bother checking credit, because we will buy the loans from you", why wouldn't I write bad loans.

Gov't 'forcing' banks to write stupid loans??? You must have fallen off the turnip truck for idiots yesterday. The Gov't didn't 'force' anything. This was all due to greed on the part of mortgage agents and banks of all stripes. It's not just Fannie and Freddie. Didn't you know that the reason for the failures of Wachovia, B of A, WAMU, etc., were due to the unbridled greed of those who pocketed Billions and caused the greatest financial disaster in many decades. All thanks to the lack of regulations, brought to you by the Republican Party. It's idiots like yourself that have no real understanding of what happened, and make truly stupid statements about 'socialism', which I'll wager you couldn't even properly define.

Now there's your classic corporate response, " It's not my fault, the government made me do it. Now where's my bonus?" What small minds people like you have.

Blame the unions for everything. I blame idiots like YOU who expect everyone else to take a pay cut while believing that YOU deserve a pay increase. There is only one group that fights for the middle class big mouth and it is the union. Bush and his cronies sure in the hell didn't.

I made the decision over 25 years ago not to tie my future to an industry beginning to feel its death throes. I could see that manufacturing in th US was increasingly being turned over to machines. I knew that MY future was in my own hands, or better yet, in my own head. Whereas your future and that of many of your union brethren was up your a$$. I saw the machines being brought out onto the shop floor at Pratt. I saw the "skilled work" that was being performed,i.e. hoisting a piece a raw metal onto the platform, bolting it down, and pushing the button so the computer could lathe the part. Pushing that button at the right time took quite a bit of skill. I guess its a natural evolution. Manufacturing replaced craftmanship and computers replace manufacturing.
