East Haddam: East Haddam Republicans Announce Candidates for Local Election

the re-election of mark walter as first selectman of east haddam would be a mistake that our town just cannot afford i voted for him in the last election because we needed to purge the town of the inefective brad parker and there was no other choice and while i don't regret getting rid of parker i do regret having to elect someone who has actually turned out to be worse! he's accomplished nothing even though i'm sure he's gonna hang his hat on the zero increase budget which really was only made possible through the cuts made by his department heads not through his own efforts how can he claim credit for a multi-million dollar budget when he has filed for personal bankruptcy and had his debts discharged? this is a fact check it out it's public information! can a man who can't manage a household budget of less than a hundred thousand dollars be left in charge of the well being of our town? i have no idea how good a job this other candidate savitski would do but it sure seems like he has some viable credentials what are mr walters? see ya' all at the polls !

Both of you are idiots- East Haddam has some of the best education in the state and preserves a rural characteristic. And where on Earth did you find that East Haddam has the most violence in the state. Maybe you ment to say least because East Haddam has some of the lowest crime rates in the country. No wonder why you're so naive- you're a Dodd supporter. And for the person who doesn't support Walters- I saw tax increases every year I lived in East Haddam until he was elected- that's hard to accomplish anywhere not mention doing it in a bad economy! He even reduced spending! And his credentials- a succesfull buisness man with a masters degree for 20 years! It makes me sad to see so many ignorant people like you two!

I don't know of any medical crisis that was responsible for it. had that been the case then a free pass might be in order, but since that isn't the case, what else could it be Hmmmmmmmm ? Oh yeah i know Poor personal fiscal choices, or maybe it was due to the legal expenses he incurred for his prodgeny (you remember right. the H.S vandalism) seems as though he has a pretty tough time mananging a household of 4 and i'm supposed to let have a second term mismanaging a town of what, almost 9000 residents w/a budget of how many millions ? NO i don't think so, as for the lack of a tax increase,How was that accomplished? through the cuts made by dept. heads that's how! And what part did he play? All he did was convince town employees to forgo contracted pay increases, while certifying a NEW union for the transfer station staff,and now in negotiations for a NEW police union for the constables! How much money is he wasting on these union negotiations?? The legal line of the budget has to be way OVER!!! And for what???? I'd say it's because the current employees don't feel safe with who is in office. What would you say?? The town never had this before. Oh and let us not forget that NOW Mr Walter has full time use of a town vehicle (silver former police car)which none of his predesessors enjoyed. Oh yeah and the public works director also has use of one to drive back and forth to Salem (his home town) why wasn't that cut? This guy is a joke, even worse than Parker was. I guess if you and the other Republicans need 2 more years to figure it out well you're a little SLOW !!

The police car is used instead of taking the stipend for using a personal car for town use. It was available after the town got a new cruiser.
The Democrats had 30 years to straighten out the budget...and all they could do was agree that a 1 mil increase was OK...and never put it to referendum!
And how dare you bring up personal finances and personal family issues. Let's start looking in everyone's closet, then! Shame on you!

Why should the democrat give up his pension? He obviously worked hard and earned it? He's not working for the state where they allow retirees to come back and get paid a salary and collect the pension. This would be a new job. Mark Walters had a business which didn't work out and thats why he filed bankruptcy. This wasn't personal. How does one run a town with millions of dollars and file bankruptcy because he can't pay off his own debt? That's crap. The fact he has a car is crap too. I see him driving that car everywhere and is it always "business"? Maybe you should ask if he gets reimbursed through the "stipend" for other out of pocket expenses. One should wonder. And the fact his son was involved in the vandalism at school leads you to believe he has no control over his children. And again he's running the town???? Wake up!!!

didn't you read any of Mr walters campaign litterature the last time around? I believe he mentioned being a scout leader,his being a deacon in his church, and being a small business owner. NOW if i'm not mistaken wasn't that an attempt to reveal his CHARACTER to the masses? it seems so.But now that flaws in that character are exposed suddenly you believe his PERSONAL life should be off limits, where is the line? and if such a line exists, shouldn't that be when he leaves the car at the town hall? I realize you probably think that i'm just some person with a political agenda, but i don't subscribe to the "Mary-Ellen Klink" school of thought NOR do i fall in line with the Ballek/Mckinnon faction. In FACT, he slowed budget growth by 50%, created the towns first "green comittee" and Agriculture commitee to preserve farming. He also supported buisnesses,Passed East Haddam's first Code of Ethics
Improved Police coverage and Ambulance response rates
Worked so that the Transfer Station is now revenue neutral
Passed and Launched Senior Tax Relief. As a voter, I don't like taxes. Have some common sense! Walter also promised us that taxes would not go up- so he's a believable person. And for qualifications... a successful buisness leader, college graduate, scout leader, church moderator,and two years as first selectman. I'd like to see your idotic candidate Savitkski and his partner-in-crime Govert produce that many qualifications. Instead all I see in town are those over-the-top riduclous signs that seem to have flying asses (donkey's)and the sugar coated "together we can"... We can what???? We can vote for you... no thanks! The difference between our arguments are that mine are backed up with FACTS!! You have no basis whatsoever, and, as a typical liberal, like to simply insult people instead of using facts. You seem the level headed sort. I'd like to ask your opinion on the reduction of school bus service and the plan to convert the middle school into town offices? This is not directly related to the issue of candidates, but it does apply to use of the budget. thanks
