Colchester CT property owners and motor vehicle owners will see a 6% increase in their tax bills in July 2010 if the proposed increased $47 million budget passes. There are about 9,000 of age voters and 3200 school-age children in the town. Anyone who pays a Colchester CT tax bill over $23.60 may vote on Tuesday, May 11th at Town Hall on Norwich Avenue, where all precincts are voting from 6 am to 8 pm. A YES vote means taxpayers will pay a 25.07 mil rate or $2507 on every $100,000 of property they own or mortgage. This is approximately $200 more than the current mil rate. Likewise landlords will have to charge as much as 6% more for property taxes as well as any increases in other fees they pay on behalf of renters. A monthly rent of $1000 would go up by $60. A $200 tax increase every year even without compounding interest would double property and Motor Vehicle taxes in ten years.
