Once again the US legal system becomes a world wide laughing stock. Life in prison would be as appropriate for this woman, and a more attainable goal. LOL

shame on the music industry is what I say. I understand people need to get paid for their work but with this kind of crap (80 grand a song the jury was made up of who, prince)I will never buy another cd the rest of my days.

At least she did'nt get the electric chair.

I'm curious... how does a woman who barely makes enough be able to pay this amount? How does the court expect her to pay and if she doesn't, will they put her in jail?

This kind of stuff is going on all over the world with fake cd's and yet there is nothing happening to these people.The industry does'nt have enough money in there pockets yet? Instead of wasting the courts time with this garbage why not use the courts time for oh I don't no maybe drunk drivers,BIG DEAL! she downloaded music...if it's on the internet it's free as far as I'm concerned...not on a c.d. which would be a copyright infringement...The court system don't help the poor just the rich!

When Tyson was sentenced six years for rape there was a guy at the same prison who was serving a 40 year sentence. What had been his offense? Embezzlement.

She knowingly broke the law, a law that everyone over the age of ten should know about.

Almost $2 mil for just 24 songs...I bet it's making a lot of people think right now.

As the mom of a rock star, I have to say that my kid deserves to be paid as do all other artists and music industry folks who work hard for a living. Do I think making an example of someone with no assets or resources is a good idea? Only if it is a deterrent to others or somehow secures against future theft - and I don't think that will happen.

When are they going after the Chinese for pirating the music and movies. I guess it is easier to pick on average citizen. BTW, what is next, they goingto start stopping every car with a CD palyer to see if the kid that is driving it paid for the CD in the player. Kids have been ripping music on computer and building a CD for years. I my day, each of us woudl buy an album, record it to cassette and share with each other.

She should've just took the original settlement. People that pirate music are no different than those that loot stores after a hurricane. just because everyone else is doing it, or you don't think you can get caught, does not make it right.

The record companies have no plans to collect all $2 million from her. This case was to set an example. I am on the side of the working people, in this case, the artists and their support people who deserve to be paid for their work.

What a joke. I am happy that she was convicted of the crime. But the restitution is an absolute farce. The legal system is so f'ed up that a rapist gets two years in prison but this lady is supposed to pay $80K per song that she shared. This gives no credibility to our court system (not that they deserve it)>
