If you've been behind the wheel recently, you already know gasoline prices are up.

The national average price for regular gas rose to nearly $3.75 a gallon Tuesday, according to AAA's Daily Fuel Gauge Report.

"Retail prices have gone up for each of the last 33 or so days — dating back to about Jan. 17," says Denton Cinquegrana, executive editor at the Oil Price Information Service.

He estimates prices will rise a bit more in coming weeks, but he doesn't expect them to go above $4 a gallon like they did in the summer of 2008.

>>>Umm, HELLO NPR, the price of gas is over $4.00 a gallon in NY ALREADY! Just another cover job for the Messiahs' continuous punt on the Keystone pipeline?

8% Unemployment, or More, Could Lie Ahead
Severe fiscal tightening in the U.S. will lead to no growth or a contraction in the first two quarters of 2013 and will push unemployment over the 8 percent level, according to Lombard Street Research.
The knock-on effect will mean pain for the business sector, with corporate profits falling after a hit to consumer spending power, the firm said.
"Our view that unemployment could rise above 8 percent and that profits will be squeezed reflects a forecast of nil to negative 2013 (first quarter) growth, and further stagnation in (the second quarter)," a Lombard Street report released on Friday said.
Fed chief Bernanke has previously said that interest rates will be kept low until the unemployment rate reaches 6.5 percent. At the current rate of 150,000 jobs created every month, and 110,000 new entrants to the labor force, that will be around January 2017.

Documents obtained by The Daily Caller show that staffers for then-Sen. Chuck Hagel met repeatedly with a controversial pro-Iran lobby group, and some met with the organization’s president.

Hagel is President Barack Obama’s choice to be the next secretary of defense. Arizona Sen. John McCain and other Republicans have conceded that a vote — and likely confirmation — will take place during the week of Feb. 25.

Iranian state-run media have referred to the National Iranian-American Council (NIAC) since at least 2006 as “Iran’s lobby” in the U.S.

It portrays itself in the media as an independent group of Iranian expatriates. But Sam Nunberg, director of the Legal Project at the Middle East Forum project, describes the NIAC as an Iranian “front group.”

“Hagel’s moderate stance on immigration has also made him the recipient of IAPAC funds,” according to that NIAC-drafted summary.

IAPAC is the Iranian American Political Action Committee. Its website includes a thank-you note from Hagel, written after the 2006 election.“Please know,” Hagel wrote,“that I will always do my best and work hard to continue to earn your confidence and support.”

NO RECOVERY IN SIGHT!
"Housing Market Improves Despite Decline in Housing Starts and Confidence"

Just another contradictory headline by Yahoo to serve as cover for their Messiah!

2013 is proving to be a tough year for housing. SURPRISE, SURPRISE
U.S. housing starts fell 8.5% in January, missing their expectations of -3.1% by a long shot, the Commerce Department reported Wednesday. And on Tuesday, the National Association of Home Builders said U.S. homebuilder confidence declined slightly in February...According to data released on Tuesday, The National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index fell one point to 46 from 47 in January. The Index rates consumer confidence on a scale of 0-100, with a score above 50 indicating that more builders think conditions are good than poor...Crowe explains that uncertainty due to government manufactured crises - OBAMA TACTIC - are likely the culprit for this drop.“Many of the uncertainties we’re beginning to see in the fiscal field and federal government orb have given people the chance to say ‘perhaps lets hold on for a month or two and see how all of that works out’- YEAH OK - before they all move forward -FUNNY - with their plans," says Crowe.

Clips from Obama's past press conferences showed how he and the Dems in Congress came up with sequestration, and are now frantically trying to avoid taking the blame for it, now that it's almost here. It's amusing watching him squirm on the hot seat on this.

Universal Orlando plans to stop offering medical insurance to part-time employees beginning next year, a move the resort says has been forced by the federal government's health-care overhaul.

The giant theme-park resort, which generates more than $1 billion in annual revenue, began informing employees this month that it will offer health-insurance to part-timers "only until December 31, 2013."

Dunkin’ Brands, which owns Dunkin’ Donuts, is trying to get the White House to change the definition of a full-time worker from 30 hours per week to 40 under ObamaCare.

ObamaCare demands that employers who have 50 or more employees provide health coverage to all full-time workers and their families. If they don’t, they face a penalty of $2,000 per worker. The law also reduced the number of hours worked per week required to qualify as a full-time employee.

According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, employers paying for health coverage would pay an average of $4,664 for a single worker and $11,429 for a family.

Many companies in the food service industry have already planned to reduce their number of employees, cut hours for workers, or find a way for the employees to find health insurance themselves, such as Wendy’s, Taco Bell, and Denny’s, in response to ObamaCare.

The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits rose more than expected last week,(REALLY?) but still remained at levels consistent with a steady improvement in labor market conditions.(BS)

Initial claims for state unemployment benefits >increased< 20,000 to a seasonally adjusted (FUNNY) 362,000, the Labor Department said on Thursday. The prior week's claims figure was revised to show 1,000 MORE applications received than previously reported.

Economists polled by Reuters had expected first-time applications to rise to 355,000. The increase in claims last week pushed them toward the upper end of their range for this year.

Companies are dropping health coverage for spouses to cut costs

By denying coverage to spouses, employers not only save the annual premiums, but also the new fees that went into effect as part of the Affordable Care Act. This year, companies have to pay $1 or $2 “per life” covered on their plans, a sum that jumps to $65 in 2014. And health law guidelines proposed recently mandate coverage of employees’ dependent children (up to age 26), but husbands and wives are optional.“The question about whether it’s obligatory to cover the family of the employee is being thought through more than ever before,” says Helen Darling, president of the National Business Group on Health.

too bad social security doesn't do the same thing...
when a working/retired person collects a social security check each month, lets say for 1000.00 their spouse gets a check for half that amount (500.00) whether they ever worked or not. who pays for that??? we the people.
the only person who should be collecting a check, is the person who put into it.
if you never worked and put into ss, you should not get anything out of it...

How many illegal aliens and others who never paid into the system collect Social Security, SSI, Medicare, Medicaid, food stamps, welfare, etc.? Stopping them would help a lot with reducing the huge federal deficit.

Also politicians as well as the pres need to step up their game by taking a 2 million dollar pay cut, im sure the 3 or 4 mil they still would make is fair...how about you?

Retailers are preparing for a triple whammy as the restoration of the payroll tax, surging gas prices, and stagnant employment and wages take a bite out of consumers’ disposable income, leaving them with less cash to spend on clothing, groceries, and eating out.

As a result, more than three years after the recession officially ended, American consumers might be preparing to downshift again, if only slightly, with low-income consumers hit the hardest. Sensing consumer trepidation, retailers are scrambling to adjust.

Retailers, restaurants, and consumer goods companies like Wal-Mart are lowering sales forecasts and adjusting marketing campaigns ahead of expectations that consumers will slash spending, the Wall Street Journal reports.

“It’s a big deal,” says Morgan Housley, a macroeconomic analyst with Motley Fool, an online financial education website.“The biggest impact is on lower-income**** households since the payroll tax is regressive, only applying to the first $113,000**** of income. Wealthier households don't feel the same pinch because the tax doesn't hit all of their income. Lower-income households also spend a larger share of their income than wealthier consumers.… Low-income families are in one of the toughest spots they’ve been in since 2009.”

****According to the Census ACS survey, the median household income for the United States was $50,502 in 2011, the latest data available.
> Expect it to decrease slightly in 2012!

UMM, wouldn't 'lower-income' households be BELOW the median average of $50,502 and not $113,000 as implied by the article?
