Coffee Drinker's screen name is fitting. Too much coffee drinking and gossip. Nothing worst than those men that sit around, drink coffee and bash the restaurant they sit their fat butts in.

None of y'all have a clue, and you misunderstand what I say. I commend Mrs. Gillis for running the business successfully for so many years! Yes, her business might be off a little due to economic times, but that place could be and SHOULD be a goldmine. Look at the interstate--times might be hard, but people are still travelling and still need a good, clean place to eat.

And, for your information, people have checked into leasing it. The property is in bankruptcy, and cannot be leased at this time.

And, whoever you are in Dublin that says she has remodeled that store and is open for business, look again. It is empty and locked up tight, or it was yesterday when I was by there.

A restaurant owner has to be willing to provide the public with good food, a clean restaurant, clean restrooms, and polite, efficient servers. If you don't have those ingredients, failure is inevitable. Talk to some of the people who were faithful employees and tried to hang in there. But, when working conditions fall below what is acceptable, then everyone loses. I was a loyal customer for many years several times a week. I miss the place and hope that it can be opened again and be even better than it was in its glory days.

SO VERY WRONG. I know because I work closely with her and her realtor.. I cannot abide rumors and just plain lies. But keep spreading what you want. You are wrong. Noone has checked on it because it would have to go through me for the most part. None of what you stated is fact or even remotedly true. You love to take a grain of truth and spin a web of deceit around it. Not very nice - and further more - embarrassing for you.
Her dublin store is being leased by World Wide Deli. You wouldnt know that because you dont know the FACTS.....Did you not read the sign that they are opening in a few weeks? What is wrong with you? Green eyed monster got your BRAIN? Store opens Nov 1st!!!! Go eat there. or in your case - grab a small drink.
As for employees - maybe they are disgruntled. Maybe not. I can find any employee from any store in this town that will talk about the owner and the store they work for in a less than favorable fashion. Dont kid yourself.

The proper way to inquire about leasing or buying a store is to contact the Real Estate Company. My understanding is that a lease may be signed by the end of this week.
Who are you and where do you get your misinformation?? You say you don't have a problem with Mrs. Gillis but your comments reflect otherwise. It is obvious that you are not interested in the facts. Your comments border on slander.

No harm meant in any way to anyone; just thought I was stating facts, and I AM VERY SORRY that the Soperton Huddle House had to close. It was a great place to eat, drink, and socialize.

No real harm done, but I think people just should really steer away from other people's finances and their businesses, because it is a very personal thing. It is a very personal and tough subject. I admire anyone that has owned a business or is doing so at the present time. It is tough as nails.

Maybe it is just me, but if I had to hear someone else discuss my practice and discuss my finances with someone else as fact, I would flip. People work hard and I personally dont know anyone that goes into a business to mismanage or to lose money. Not the nature of the game.

Don't hate on Coffee Drinker; he's like the rest of us, he is tired of seeing favorite places go out of business.

I think everyone would agree that we need businesses opening instead of closing!

Also - people should learn how to support their favorite places rather than bashing the heck out of it. I was really upset (and would be if it was Dennards, and any other place that tried hard in this community) when people bashed the huddle house. But the worst was the fiction.

Thank you John. It never ceases to amaze me the RUMOR MILL that is in our City of Soperton and Treutlen County. When I hear people say that they are CHRISTIANS I guess mabey I do not understand. But my DEFINITION OF BEING IS A GOOD CHRISTIAN is to treat other people with Dignity and Respect, HELP ONE ANOTHER AND NOT EXPECT ANYTHING IN RETURN I think some people truly beleive thatif they go to Church on Sunday that all is well with the Lord. I would like to see more people Practising what they Preach. I see a great Decension between some of the Churches here but this happens all over this Country in every State, City and every small town in America Peoples Characters get Destroyed , Families get Ripped Apart.It seems that when somebody dies it brings out the best and worst in people,If people would just start working together instead of working against each other. What kind of an Example are setting for the Children I always feel that Children are Products of te Envoirnment and they only know what they are taught in the Home I know our Teachers in our Schools do a Wonderfull Job but the Basic Foundation starts in the Home. I could not agree with you more. I have always thought Mrs. Gillis did a good job with her businesses. In addition, I have always thought a lot of Mrs Gillis and all the Gillis family that I have ever had to have any dealings with and this goes back to the 70's. Mrs. Gillis is to the age that she should be kicked back enjoying the fruits of her labor versus trying to bust her rear end pleasing folks that come into the store and purchase one cup of coffee but drink 10 cups. Give me a break. That is NOT good business in this day and age.

I am appalled at some of the post's here about restaurant's in our little town. I have been in busisness in Soperton for 26 1/2 yrs. and I have seen business's come and go. Some of you seem to think the only place to est around town is Subway or the used to be Huddle House which is no more. As I recall there is the Bar-B-Que Barn across from the Colony Bank which has been there for the past 8 yrs. What is wrong with eating there? They have good food. I eat there every day. By the way their health score is excellent as well. Then there is the Dairy Queen, the store beside it has lunches. Seems to me that is more then one restaurant. Why does everyone always forget the small business's? If you would patronize these business's you wouldn't have time to put everyone else down. Like I said I have been in business in Soperton for 26 1/2 yrs and I still have people who tell me they didn't know I was there. These are people who have lived there all thier lives. What is wrong with you, do you only see what you want to see in our town. Try looking in the phone book people in the yellow pages for what you need before going out of town. And stop berating people you don't know jack about. I guess if it were not for the gossip, people around Soperton wouldn't have anything to do.

Great post. People should support each other here. Not tear everybody's business down. Most that do that are the ones that have never owned or tried to run anything. It is a tough industry. I take my hat off to all the small business owners with this crazy obama economy!

Its so good see that some people here have some sense. I have lived here for almost a year and although I wish there was more to choose from, I have done my best to patronize the local businesses. This town is going down and we need to find a way to revive it. One of my parents grew up here and said that downtown used to be PACKED on Saturday. No parking places. People coming from all directions. Several car dealerships, 3-4 drug stores, factories, even the hospital is closed! I have a hard time imagining that those things were here. I wish I had a majic wand but, it seems to me that this town has been held back from progress for either political or personal reasons. People from Dublin and Vidalia can tell that Im not from the southern part of the state but when I say I live in Soperton, I dont like the looks I get.
What does that tell you?

I know the economy has hit small businesses pretty hard, as well as the big corporate types. But, I have no idea what the answer is to the problems. I just hope that people will be able to hang in there and support each other. Not tear everybody's hard work down so much. You make a good point Roots in Soperton. Soperton does need a magic wand. There are nice people here. Maybe things will improve in a few years or so. It sure isnt looking good with obama running things.
