County-City Consolidation

Has anyone heard about a committee that has been formed to study the possibility of consolidating the county and city governments? Does anyone know who is on this committee and how to get in touch with them?

What are some opinions about this possible consolidation? Good idea, bad idea? What are the pros and cons of consolidation? COULD it work with a small town/county like Soperton/Treutlen?

Your thoughts, please.

I think the committee was listed in the Soperton News recently-but don't have the issue right now ^ would not wanna name the members as I would leave some one out!!

It didn't work before.Thats why they reopened the Police Dept.

This consolidation would not just be for law enforcement, it would be for all services. The Commissioners and City Council would combine. There would only be one governing body over the city and county.

Previously, the City eliminated the Police Department and the Sheriff's Department was responsible for the entire county. Now, the City has the Police Department back in force. Don't know how that is working out.

Personally, I don't think a consolidation of services would work. You have city water, sewer, and garbage services, city streets, county roads, county dumpsters, etc., etc.,. It would probably be a nightmare trying to please everyone and have these services done efficiently.

What are your thoughts?

Some guy named Hollister and a lady called Isabelle wants to consolidate the county and city.

There are many others on the "consolidation" committee.

Only consolidation this place needs is to merge with laurens or toombs county, were they have industries that actualy help landowners pay taxes and decent school systems. This place is a joke!

The lady is Isabelle Powell and the guy is Jack Hollister. Both have been residents here for a short time.
I would have lots of questions before voting on this. Who would, at the end of the day, run the county and city-- the county manager from Laurens county? The county commissioners? What would happen to city councilmen and mayer?
