We pay taxes for services like this and now they want more of our hard earned money. Let them take some pay cuts to help balance the budget. Maybe if they used the money we paid in taxes the correct way we would not have to pay more money out of our pockets. Get the money from the one's that was scandling it out of our city. We don't make enough money now with the economy the way it is and now they want to bleed us dry. GO CLEVELAND

omg what else? all i know is people will start putting their trash in local buisnesses trash recepticals.I live in a home with a large water bill due to eronious estimated billing which was 1200 dollars that was credited after 2 years.so what if this happens to someone else? does your bill have to be current to have your trash picked up? we all know that the division of water is in trouble for their behaviors.i say fix that first and then if they still want to do it fine.i dont live in cleveland but i think that idea is just soo stupid.whats next? paying to have your mail delivered? i am soo thinking about moving out of the country in about the next 2 years.even though there are idiots elsware, they do care about the people in their cities.

This is charged into our property tax, what kind of sham is this fellow citizens? However I do not generate a lot of trash, I see 2 and more cans going out compared to my one - now with the new trucks with the lift-tip gizmo a scale should be put onto that to make it fair, more going in the truck, pay more - but do not create a base fee like the deregulated dominion gas bill 30bux for a meter and reading 8bux for gas plus 15bux federal taxes. This whole county needs to go back to WW2 and start over from the times when citizens were responsible, most urban areas have outgrown the education and the conservative citizens are taking a beating for the lifestyle of the careless and fashion minded.

Most communities outside of Cleveland already pay for trash collection and pay there taxes as well. Why should residents of the City of Cleveland be different from everyone else. What would you do if the city did not pick up trash and you had to dispose of it yourself?

this is great they are going to charge more to pick up the trash. start with kinsman and Imperial Avenue pick up all the trash true that won't leave many people around after they are done. Watch out for the beer bottles and needles all over the place.

Happy New Year to the people of Cleveland. Your reward for sticking with your city is now sticking out of your posterior! Who's glad now that this semi literate bumbling fool has been reelected?
More realistic in Cleveland would be:
1.)Wh@re tax - register prostitutes, and have Cleveland be a co-pimp, collecting a few bucks with every 'roll'
2.)Crack dealer tax - collect with every transaction.
3.)Big @ss jeans tax - collect a dollar from every brothah standing aimlessly on the corner inn those ridiculous chothes.
4.) Hey genius mayor - privatize the trash collection, and place those lazy idiots presently doing it on permanent layoff. How much would that save. The solution making the most sense hasn't been looked at?

How about this mayor jackson tell the strong unionized collectors to take a wage cut layoff 10% of the workers.
Taxation without representation levying a tax on the citizens without putting it to a vote. other cities are laying off city workers whats the matter the union gave you a big NO @#$$ way will they take a pay cut or a layoff and your scared of them.

This doesn't make any sense at all. Cleveland have money to build all this crap we don't need tryna promote cleveland to get people to move here but you want to charge a fee to pick up trash. I will be moving out of cleveland real soon because it is one of the worse places to live. There are no jobs here and the city is run down.

I'm pretty sure Mayor Frank Jackson said that we have a balanced budget. What happened that quickly that the budget just became unbalanced. Oh yeah! The election is over and he's back in. Something happened to that same affect when Taft ran for another term "No new taxes". As soon as he was elected we got hit with taxes from everything.

Seriously? I live in Cleveland, if I'm paying for the trash collection (where are my tax dollars going?) does that mean that they actually have to get the trash IN the truck and NOT all over the street?

High taxes? You have no clue. When I live in Ohio (Lorain County) I paid taxes and still had to pay for my trash pick up. Get over it already. Clevelanders don't know what high taxes are. As in other areas, they want something for nothing. Move to Rocky River. They used to pick up their trash from their back yards. I don't know if they still do that.

Not only Rocky River but other cities have trash picked up from their back yards. My aunt lives there and feels like a princess not having to haul her garbage to the street.

You Clevelanders need to quit your f'n whining!!!

ALL surrounding communities pay separately for their trash pick-up already.

Smoke two fewer packs of cigarettes a month...free garbage pick up.

Drink one and 1/2 fewer 12 packs of beer a month...free garbage pick-up.

Limit your treks to Starbucks to 4 days instead of 5 a week...free garbage pick-up.

A few less joints...free garbage pick-up.

One or two hits of crack less a week...free garbage pick-up.

Air up those 20" wheels to the proper air pressure...free garbage pick-up.

Get mugged one less time on Kinsman...free garbage pick-up for 2 months there.

Make your baby-daddy pay his child support...free garbage pick up for 2 months there as well.

We're all cuttin' back...you should too.

they are just gonna throw their trash in every nook and cranny until the trash is higher than the weeds in all the empty lots and is falling out of every window in abandoned / foreclosed house.
