Just so that everyone knows: If you have trees and living in Dolton -- Public Works is not cleaning the streets. Mayor Lewis told the citizens at the last meeting, if you have leaves to clean them up yourselves otherwise, he is going to start ticketing the people that leave them in front of their homes, on the street. They could probably make an announcement on Channel 4...I realize there is nothing you can do with them with all of this rain, but just leave them on your lawns. We have not had a leaf-sucker-upper here in along time!! Also, do not put the leaves in your green bucket, or in any plastic bags. They have to be put in the blue bucket from Homewood Disposal for $50.00 a season (first week of April-first week of December) OR you can use the large paper bags from Ace or Menard's. The blue bucket can be used during the winter for garbage...Anybody have a suggestion?

1 Mr.Lewis is just like any other person working at the Village, Don't care! What happened to cleaning the leaves off the streets its not our property, its city property. We need to bring back the old Villagers from way back. |

Thanks for the heads up "old time Dol!" Thank goodness the leaves are turning and falling early this year. The last two years it didn't happen around here till after Thanksgiving. Last year was a particularly heavy rush to get them cleaned up and into bags before the magic Dec. 1st pickup deadline with late turning, heavy rain, and an early snow! Put 'em in the brown bags if you got 'em. Get the big blue container from homewood and use it if you want. Mulching with your lawnmower is a good bet, unless you have those big, heavy, waxy leaves like the ones that come off oak trees. You ought to clean up at least the gutter in front of your place. If you clean the street, too, you will cut down on the leaves blowing back onto your yard from all the speeders flying down our village streets. Also, if you have a storm drain near you, you want to make sure you, or someone else, is cleaning that up, unless you want a hydroplaning vehicle flying into your neighbor's front yard or house. If you can arrange that, call me, I haven't seen one like that in a long time. See Venice comment above. The leaves in the alley will work for a time to plug all the potholes back there improving the ride, but when it freezes the leaves will make it especially plastic and hydraulic in making the little pot holes into very humongous craters. Your alley, your work, your back, your choice. As for ticketing leaves in front of your home - pretty easy work for the village. They need revenue, but ticketing all the speeding vehicles is tedious work, and has a long, long time to make its way through the Cook County court system before the payoff --- before they ever see the revenue. Your house doesn't move, and you go to the local housing court. Can you spell "kangaroo court?" An administrator (hack) will hear your case and find you guilty, guilty, guilty, no matter what. You will lose, they will have their money, and you will spend several fortunes trying to get that "little" fine back. Can anyone say fourth ammendment? Oak leaves are just murder on grass. Maybe we should all rake up our oak leaves and take them over and throw them onto village officials' lawns and see if we can coax them into finding the money to fix the leaf vacs, without ticketing everybody, ha, ha! I am surprised that the village is still financially afloat with all the corruption and skulduggery that the Shtwins have foisted on this town.
