Racism still exists in AL

Is racism still very prevalent in Alabama. I just read an article that stated that inter-racial marriages is still prohibited? As a minority and I have plans on moving to Alabama will I be facing alot of discrimination?

Racism is prevalent, but there are a lot of well respected African Americans in the community. but not the same like New York, Los Angeles, etc...it is very old school. I would not let it stop you to move to Alabama. I am blonde and there is racism against me, LOL! everybody nowadays seems to be racist. it is a shame...we are all God's children.:)

Yes it is. I am from a small town called Andalusia, I would never ever live there again. The whites still has their side of town, even cemetary are like that. They are a bunch of stupid red neck.

Sweetheart, dont know who you are kidding, but I have lived it. Andalusia Alabama and the rest of Alabama is striving with Racism and it will never be gone, because it taught in the homes.

When did you decide to leave? It would be a pity if the mentality of the people are as you claim it to be. I guess one can not expect things to change over night and I'm sure anywhere in the states there are plenty of people who may have already formed an opinion of those who may look different from themselves.
The only problem I would have would be from the same people making trouble for me here in NY.
An ex. and certain family members that only instill fear in me for wanting to try and sustain a life for myself.
I'm not a troublesome person and perfer to live in peace and would like nothing more then to have some tranquility in my life which many are making an impossibility because it isn't benefiting them in some way or form.
These people would like nothing more then to see me fail at any cost. All I can do is take a gamble and hope for the best.
Lets see if southerners are as hospitable as they claim to be.

Yes it's sad to say that racism is prevalent here in Alabama, as stated above racism is every where not only in Al. I look at it this way if the Mayor of Opp can date a Black lady it can't be all bad. Take a look at the topix location Opp Alabama and see what's taking place in Opp Alabama, there are two Black ladies with the same name Linda Tillis but the one that worked with the banking system is the one that the Mayor is dating. She also once worked with the Opp School system, but she was fired from both the Bank/School systems. If the both of them were single there would not be a problem, but do to the fact that they are both married there is a major problem. Racism is always going to be a problem as long as we are on this side of heaven, do you agree?

Why is it that you think everyone is picking on you? There must be a reason, people don't just pick on people for nothing. You have did something to the wrong person, people don't just pick on you because you are white. I could understand it if you were white, or if you were the Mayor of Opp dating the Black young lady Linda Tillis. What ever is upsetting you get over it.

I'm going to try to stay optimistic about this move and I'll always try to be open minded even if there are issues that I may not agree with. I hope to meet some good honest hard working locals that have the backbone to stand up for human kind.
I love country music and I can't wait to get my hands on some southern cooking.
Can anyone give me any recommendations as far as the best homestyle dining to go to?
I just hope I get a better reception there then I did here.

It's alright for you to call me a lier, it still don't change the fact that she got fired from both the bank and school system. I have cousins that work at both the bank and school. When you have a guilty person that have been exposed, they will do any and everything to make their selves look innocent, and that's what she is trying to do but I know different. If you don't believe me ask the Mayors daughter she is in the school system and she will tell you the truth. Matter fact I do believe that she is the one that did not renew her contract. Your sister will not tell the truth because she have been living a lie most of her adult life. You can contact my cousin Ms. Peggy Courson if she have not retired, she was aware of the problem that she caused at the bank. Have a good day.
