Borough Council President David Richards said on Thursday the borough will indeed be drafting a letter at next week's regular council meeting. But that letter will be sent to the Central Penn Business Journal, and will "not necessarily be that complimentary," Richards said.

The letter, which still requires approval by borough council, questions the journal's criteria for choosing its winners, and cites two past fines by DEP as reason to suspect Tucker is unworthy of the award.

Let me first start out by saying that I don't know Mr. Tucker but I have been following his differences with the East Berlin borough council over the past 2 years. I even went to the last meeting as an objective observer. I also fully understand that it is the borough councils duty to uphold the regulations of the town to protect the taxpayers from liabilities.
I left the meeting that night feeling as if I had missed something, it almost seems as if the council has a personal vendetta against Bernie Tucker and nothing he can do will change their opinion of him or his business. The comments made by Council President Richards seems to echo that sentiment. He refuses to acknowledge the successes of Tucker Industries but instead focuses on things that happened in the past. What about their ability to fix the DEP violations and remain in compliance? Wasn't that the goal of the council when they contacted the DEP?
This is a council President that in my opinion has let his emotions cloud his ability to make any objective decisions when it comes to Tucker Ind. and the comments above make it obvious you hold a grudge. Neither is an acceptable quality for a borough council President. I ask you to sit back and reread your comments and ask yourself if you have lost your ability to be fair to them. I think you have.

Congratulations Mr. Tucker let's just hope they don't give you a banner to honor you for the award because we know the council would just cause you problems if you do get one.

For everyone who lives in this area you truly need to get a new council elected. When a company gets that kind of award and from an "impartial" magzine and the council can't even say congratulations it is really sad. I agree with the above post- they have completely lost their ability to be fair to Mr. Tucker and shouldn't be allowed to put down laws or enforce laws if they can't be partial!!

I know live in Alabama and when I read this junk it makes me ashamed to be from the Hanover area!!

I thought the York Springs Boro Council was wacked, East Berlin is certainly giving YS a run for their money. EB Council needs to be objective and realize that Tucker Industries is trying to be a good neighbor. Fines have been paid and compliance has been in place, so EB Council Pres.......what is your problem? You should be proud of Tucker Industries, not attempting to tarnish their accomplishments. Sounds like a vendetta against Mr. Tucker is alive and well in EB.

I wonder how much tax and income this company contributes to the East Berlin area. Most small communities would love to have a stable industry in their town.

John, you are correct about the fuse over the banner being "just short of stupid". But I will tell you that in this last election, the town voted 3 citizens onto the council (2 new members, 1 current member) who are business friendly and will do everything in their power to stop this nonsense. Forty thousand dollars has been spent to fight Bernie Tucker over his sign and so-called zoning violations and the majority of the good people of East Berlin are appalled at this waste of the taxpayer's money. It is not East Berlin taxpayers who are wrong, it is David Richards and his abuse of power and his cronies on the East Berlin Council.

Bernie, congratulations on your award. Many people in town are proud of you. May you have many, many more years of good fortune.

Once again Richards opens his mouth and puts his foot in it. Richards has no common scense, and or morals. To make this statement
"Borough Council President David Richards said on Thursday the borough will indeed be drafting a letter at next week's regular council meeting. But that letter will be sent to the Central Penn Business Journal, and will "not necessarily be that complimentary," Richards said.
What in hells name is his problem!
Does he not realize that he continues to expose the citizens of E.B. that he and his borough council buddies "Woodward & Clayton" are the laughing stock of not only the local area but the United State.
My just look where all the "Comments" are comming From.
And now the fine citizens of E.B. have received notice that their TAXES are going up in 2010. Why
were we not advise of how the borough was spending tax dollars on legal issues that have no value to citizens and not one citizen has ever been advise of this council action they just do what they want.

Now the next meeting they are going to take the time to draft a letter to send to the Business Journal years and think that their letter is going to mean anything to them.

Well guess what they need to do is write a letter of apology to the fine citizens of the Borough who have put up with this crap for 2 years and send a letter to Tucker apologizing for his comments in this article and bring and end to this.

He need to tested for to confirm his mental state to see if he is fit to hold the position of President of the Borough council. Where ever he came from he may have been one that no one would confront him. Well Richards the citizens have voted and on November 3Rd, the resules were hard and fast, THEY WANT YOU AND YOU BUDDIES OUT. LEAVE ALL THE BUSINESSES ALONE. When you leave You can repay to the citizien the $40,000, of tax payer dollars you forced community to spend on all the Tucker, Bar-B-Q sign, zoning other issues that you cannot and never will win.

O by the way save some money to pay the others who once they begins their personal legal actions against you you will need all you can get.

How DISGUSTING that the boro council would send a non-complimentary letter to C.P. Business Journal, questioning Mr. Tucker's worthiness! I, too, attended the zoning hearing as an observer (and in support of Tucker Industries) recently...My assessment of the council president, who was a "witness" for the zoning board, along with the zoning board members in attendance didn't appear to have a single brain cell across the table. They're miserable, vindictive chest beaters just wanting to prove their power in that tiny little boro...and it's pretty clear to me that the citizens of E.B. are too lazy to get out and vote them out! E.B. Council continues to drive businesses out of town...they sure didn't try that when TYCO was there, did they??? Guess they'll only be satisfied when there's no employment or businesses in town, except for Rutter's!

I think Mr. Richard's and some of the present boro council and the zoning board president need to take their witch hunt to another area and take the Histerical Society with them.

What a soap opera!

Let's see....what will happen next at the show?...

1. The council writes a stupid letter before the new council members are installed.
2. The new council is installed in January and a vote is taken to rescind the stupid letter...BUT, it is a tie vote!
3. The mayor is the tie-breaker, and votes to rescind the stupid letter and offer a letter of apology to Mr. Tucker signed by stupid Richards!

THE MAYOR IS ONCE AGAIN A HERO!

....wouldn't it be nice!

Congrats to Mr. Tucker and his business.

Yep, council is going to raise the towns taxes 1 mill, because of excessive expenses!!! Who's fault the taxes are going up? Borough Council, not the tax payers.....let the council pay the extra taxes. Why burden everyone else. Anyway the voters have shown they are tired of this crappy council.

Since when is it a borough councils responsibility to respond to an award from a magazine? Sounds like a power trip to me. Let's be honest, they won't give two winks what Richards thinks. How about focusing on the important issues facing our town like the expensive sewer project that we are going to get stuck paying for and the recent request for a tax increase!!
