Grant keeps spay, neuter program low

Full story: Farmington Daily Times

I am writing on behalf of the Humane Society of the Four Corners, or HS4C, a local 501 3 animal assistance organization, and also the gracious recipient of a $5,000 grant from Conoco-Phillips. This grant from Conoco-Phillips will allow us to continue to provide HS4C's low-cost spay-and-neuter program to the community, which is even more important ...

I am not to happy with this lowcost spay/ nu. program. I have sent info to the san juan animal league, to request help to get my cat spayed for i have recently been layed off. They said they are not taking more animals, and to contact aztec A.s. I did so and the lady I talked to also denied help, and was very rude on the phone. I no longer know where or how to get help.

There is a Vet in Durango who will work with you...I can't remember there names but look in the Durango Phone Book and give them a call. I know your problems...I had the same. This is where some of the Government Stimulus Money needs to go - help the critters out.

The shelter does not deny anyone help. However they are extremely backed up on surgeries due to the number of people taking advantage of this program. If you stop and think about how many people need help getting their animals spayed/neutered and the limit on the number of animals one vet can spay/neuter in one day not everyone can call and get a appointment the exact moment they would like one. How about calling back and keep asking for help?? I called to see about getting my dog spayed and the lady was very helpful in explaining that they would love to help me but to please call back after the first of the year because they are trying to get people who have been on the list and waiting for months in before taking new people. Help is out there. Just don't give up so easily.

That is exactly right, and I appreciate your saying so. They work hard to help the animals and some people don't want to go to any effort at all, even when it doesn't cost them anything. Put in a little effort instead of just complaining!

San Juan veternary clinic will make payment arrangements up to one year. You can pay as little as ten dollars a month, Farmington veternary is pretty cheap aswell only 49$ to spay a cat and I think they can make arrangements too.

The San Juan Animal League and the Humane Society of the Four Corners are not the same program. If you contacted the Animal League, you were barking up the wrong tree, so to speak. The League is run by two old hen-hussies who are more about putting up barriers than actually helping. We were virtually charter member of the Animal League (back in Sybil McD's day) and gave GENEROUSLY over the years to support spay/neuter, but when we learned how the money was actually used -- or not used -- we cut them off. We now support D-SNip in Durango.
That said, keep trying with HS4C and regional vets and offer to pay what you can. You may have to be an adult and find another home for the cat until you get back on your feet.

Daily Horoscope for December 11

Aquarius

You're in a tricky position because someone who is supposed to know what they're talking about seems to be spouting complete nonsense instead. If this is an older friend or relative then you can simply smile politely and wait for them to rejoin the rest of us on Planet Earth. But if it's a boss or bureaucrat who's talking rubbish or giving you some puzzling orders, you'll be in a quandary about what to do.
