Ecolab considers move from downtown

Business's are bailing out thanks to the ANTI business atmosphere in St Paul. Way to go liberals.

I have an idea. Hire a thousand government employees to meet and figure out why these private companies are leaving St. Paul.

The fact that its deadsville and parking costs a fortune doesn't have anything to do with it????

we do not need them anyway. we have many union eployees to pick up the slack. the largest employers in ramsey county are as follows and not in this order
1) state union workers 2) county union workers 3) city union workers 4) school district union workers. union workers ride into town on a bus at 8 carry their lunches and eat at their desks leave for home at 4.
It is just a matter of time before Travelers heads for the exit. oh and by the way lets raise taxes for the city. do you see a trend? remember west publishing or Burlington Northern how about al the law firms. these were groups that spent money with merchants and helped the business' then government expanded and with it the taxes required and st paul became a democrat union stronghold which killed business.

As a "Government" official IF that dirty chemical company leaves that is WONDERFUL news!!

You see "Going Forward" as the brilliant say these days. "Going Forward" with all the "Stimulus" money pouring from Obama's pockets we will be needing every desk we can find for government jobs.

Think about it, the more office space there is in St. Paul the "Opportunity" for Obama to fill those empty offices.

Think about it for a moment, there is a silver lineing in the black cloud.

It would be horrible to lose Ecolab in downtown St. Paul. The city needs to take a hard look at itself and see why companies are leaving (tax rates, parking costs, transit). Downtown is supposed to be the cities heart of entertainment, business, and government.

If ever there was a reason for building the light rail, building entertainment venues like the Pond at 7 Corners, a Saints ballpark in Lowertown, this is it. Businesses will leave to find other more vibrant parts of the state, with better transit options for its employees.

You can blame it all on St. Paul BOMA.

Is St. Paul that anti-business that corporations for fleeing? At this rate no one will be downtown unless there's a Wild game.

How long are we going to allow the DFL to control our major cities? They are incapable of creating a good business climate. They ARE good at creating a favorable climate for welfare recipients, gangbangers, immigrants. Unfortunately, none of them pay the bills.

IMHO the DFL is doing a wonderful job of manageing cities. In fact their management philosophy WILL result in a secondary benefit REDUCED TRAFFIC!!

Think about it the fewer jobs the lighter traffic will become.

This IS clearly a WIN WIN for all of Minnesota in fact IF EcoLabs leaves Minnesota it will be a WIN WIN WIN (a tripple WIN).

In FACT at some point the number of workers jamming the metro freeways at rush hour will decline to the levels the freeways were designed for. The freeways were designed 1/2 CENTURY ago.

Also remember the NON-WORKING residents of Minnesota don't clog the freeways like all those WORKERS.

So IF we can realize an increase of NON-WORKERS and at the same time DECREASE the number of WORKERS at some point the remaining skeleton staff of workers in the Metro will fit very nicely on te Metro Freeways.

Heck when you think about it there might be a WIN WIN WIN WIN there because we won't need all these BILLION dollar rail solutions.

Mayor Chris Coleman: Please update your city slogan to reflect the rality of the situation. Instead of "The most LIVABLE city in America" it should be "The LEAVE-able" city in America."

I love this town and hate seeing what's happening to it courtesy of the entrenched, old-boy DFL-controlled system of city governance.

Will the last employer leaving St. Paul please turn off the lights?

Oh. I almost forgot. Can't wait for the billion dollar Central Corridor light rail boondoggle to be completed. Empty trains running into downtown. Empty train sleaving downtown.

Downtown St. Paul has been dying for 40 years atleast. Both Repubs and Demos have had reasonable cracks at it.

I can't help but wonder if the MTC didn't do the biggest harm. The buses went through the crappiest neighborhoods and deposited the riff raff into downtown. People stopped riding the bus if they didn't have a job or other reason to be downtown. Right now it seems like LTR is slated for the crappiest neighborhoods once again. Just making it easier for riff raff to spread their "good word" in more places.

How great was it to go into a shoe store downtown that actually smelled like leather, instead of going into the mall stores and it smells like burnt rubber. The old Norstar theatre was great and gorgeous. Watching life go by at Bridgeman's. Going to the Science Museum, the new Science museum has too many bratty uncontrolled kids and its geared mostly for kids so its not that interesting for adults.

There's a lot of truth to the high rate of riff raff infecting the cities and their demise.

The policies of Mayor Coleman and the City Council have meant that the city can't sell homes for as little as $1, and the employers are leaving in 1,000-job blocks. Meanwhile the mayor whines for a "regional" (i.e. taxes from people who don't live in St. Paul) solution to keep the dysfunctional machine going, belching clouds of incompetence and entitlement.

It was 1974 and Louis Menk,the then President of The Burlington Northern addressed the legislature. His message, to bring the talent to the Twin Cites the legislature needed to address personal income tax, corporate taxes. Why, they could not attract the talent. He went on to say if they couldnot or would not address those issues, he would move the railroad.

At the time, Harry Seibe and Bruce Vento bascially laughed at the idea of a railroad moving. And when the then senior DFL leader Hubert Humphrey weighed in that the railroad was chartered in Minnesota and could not move the DFL felt they had told him in no uncertain terms what he could do.

It takes about a mile and half to stop a train. But it took about 10 years to move a railroad.

And as long as we are in the wayback. How about American Hoist and Derrick? Serta? There used to be Bockstrucks, Gokey's, Maude Borrup. The Saint Paul Athletic Club.

To say there is a problem in Saint Paul is obvious.

Once the trains run empty again, in about 2020, then the line can be shut down and then the old LRT/CC rail bed can be converted to bike paths.

BILLIONS of tax revenue will have been wasted BUT the Ordway and MIOA will occupy the entire downtown areas of Minneapolis and St Paul.

To bad there will be nobody left to watch a show..
