There is a hospital in North Carolina that has a program for cancer patients, that reguire chemo. Somehow if you save hard plastic bottle caps off of soft drinks and water bottles, it goes to a program to help pay for chemo. If anyone can give me the name of the hospital, and who to get in touch with I would greatly appreciate it.. This would be a great hobby and very helpful to people in need. Any information is appreciated. Thank You

I would also like to know the answer to this. I just sent a comment in Snopes.com to see if they will investigate. I live and work in Pennsylvania and the company that I work for is asking us to collect them, but for some reason I think it is a hoax. I can't find anything on the internet.

Its a myth. There is and never will be a place that does this type of thing. I do not understand why but someone started this thinking. I was introduced to it by my mother-in-law. She told me Pepsi would pay for dialysis; 1 minute for every aluminum pop top we can gather. It is false. If you think about it every can was made so that those pop-tops didn't litter. Then some hard person spread the rumor that the new ones that staid on the can should be taken off. I am sorry to be the one to say that there are people out there that only want to hurt and make fools of us. Don't feel bad...you are not the only one fooled. If you want to make a difference please look around and give...they are the one's you can make a difference with today. If you don't find anyone worthy then don't blame God....blame that preacher that is not speaking the truth. If you have any heart please don't vote for the party of that savior of the American people that was so glorified in 1999- George W. I was wondering the same thing. We were told at school that they were going to go to a little girl. Which no one has the answer to our question. I called the American Cancer Soc. and they had never heard of this program.

According to the Cancer Society - they have no program for collection of bottle caps. BUT Ronald McDonald House Charities accept large quantities of soft drink tabs which are recycled and used to support the facility. Their website is http://www.rmhc.org . You can also contact your local community service office to see if they are aware of any other fundraiser programs in your area connected to recyling. The link given to me was http://www.cancer.org Hope this helps! God Bless

It's a hoax:

http://www.messybeast.com/dragonqueen/walkers...
http://message.snopes.com/showthread.php...
http://www.register-herald.com/local/local_st...

In August 2008 a hoax in Richwood, WV, USA spread by word of mouth to collect 1500 bottle caps (any brand) to get a free chemo session for a sick child. There were no details as to which charity sponsored the collection nor details of the patient or medical facility in WV that were involved. The American Cancer Society in WV revealed had received around 100 phone calls about the bottle cap collection. Their office manager had called non-profit organisations trying to get more information. No non-profit organisations were involved and the collection was a hoax. One collector high up the chain worked at a cancer centre and claimed they were collecting on behalf of a colleague and that the bottle tops were given to an unknown professor at a WV college who personally delivered them to the family whose patient wished to remain amonymous. The professor and the family could not be traced i.e. those at the top of the chain did not want to admit to being hoaxed. Jeff Gettelfinger reports a similar word-of-mouth version of the plastic bottle tops chemo hoax circulating through East Tennessee: 750 plastic bottle tops (any brand) exchangeable for one chemotherapy session for an unnamed child. The tops were to be taken to Food City grocery stores, owned by KVT Food Stores of Kentucky.

I've emailed DuPont Hospital asking if the claim was legitimate. I've also been told it's a hoax, but my church is currently collecting.

Actually, there is some truth to the idea of saving pull tabs for charity. The pull tabs are recycled (they are after all, aluminum). Here in Cincinnati, the Ronald McDonald House benefits from the proceeds of the recycling. The reason they ask for the pull tabs only is more of a storage space issue than anything else.

This is a hoax, folks. However, you can visit www.aveda.com to learn how to recycle your saved plastic bottle caps.

How would this work? Where would the money come from? As much as I want to believe in this scheme, there is zero logic behind it.
