Liquor store owner told to stop taking shoplifters' shoes

For starters, the average Colorado cop couldn't find his rump if you Crazy glued his hands to it. The fact is the store owner is offering to NOT do something that he has the legal Right to do, in exchange for the thief giving up a piece of property of nominal value. Where I come from that's called a simple contract. If the owner threatened physical harm that would be another issue.

As is so often the case the police find it easier to beat on the good guys because going after the bad guys just takes too much more energy. In the long run maybe the cops are afraid the store owner's actions will reduce the crime rate and put their jobs in jeapardy.

Maybe they should leave the liquor store owner alone and put some time in on the Ramsey case.

Could newsday please print the address of the liquor store? I only have one leg so i've got a bunch of unused left shoes. I figure I can get hammered for 2 months before he finally makes me barefoot

Cops are usually only one half-step up from criminals anyway. Most of them have self esteem issues or they wouldn't be there in the first place.

the store owner caught a girl helping herself to cigarettes, behind the counter, one day, and hung a big banner on the back wall that said 'Mary-Lou steals cigarettes'
