Solid-Waste Hearing Set for April 22

Full story: www.2theadvocate.com

Pointe Coupee Parish Police Jury members talked about a number of problems Tuesday night, but the issue most had in common seemed to be lack of money.

Tommy LeJeune, of the Faulk & Winkler accounting firm, told jurors their cash reserve in the solid waste fund has been declining steadily in recent years, and said something needs to be done to allow it to rebuild. Jurors scheduled a public hearing April 22 to consider amending the solid waste collection ordinance, something that could result in a rate increase.

Get ready, we're going to pay more for all those trash cans littering the roads.

I saw this just this past weekend. Okay, it was Easter weekend, I saw a garbage truck on my road, they picked up here and there and never came back. SO, today I have double garbage. These people are pathetic, and yes we'll pay more for their service. I know someone is going to get in a wreck one day for the garbage cans in the road. I also heard once that an officer was hit by one on a traffic stop. "SOMEONE is going to get seriously hurt by these garbage bins.

Why not just transfer funds from the utility fund to the solid waste fund. The utility fund is where there's a huge surplus from what I understand. Isn't that OUR money too?

Hmmmmm - don't know about any surplus in the utility fund - however, it would be a good question to ask at the public hearing on April 22nd. You will be there, won't you?

The PJ pushed for this new service and now they will be pushing for a rate increase. I understand that fuel costs have gone up tremendously and someone has to pay for that. But, I also feel that the citizens should be made to remove these cans from the roadside after pickup. While this service may work well in urban areas, I see many flaws in the service in rural areas.

Typical government agency. Not working efficiently? Raise the rates instead of making the business more efficient.

We elect them so, I guess we have to suffer the consequences. And some of them just get elected over and over and over.

See you there. You might also want to consider another public hearing the PJ is holding on April 8th - subdivision regulations - ought to be another interesting discussion. They are basically adopting the regulations from Lafayette parish.

Adopting the regulations are nice, but you have to enforce them.

Daily Horoscope for May 21

Pisces

It's a great day for fixing anything that needs attention now. That might be a dripping tap, a sick child, an unpaid bill or a miffed partner. However, you'll do particularly well if you need to sort out something connected with official or joint finances or red tape. You might be asked to help someone deal with a bureaucratic problem, especially if they're elderly.
