Our View: UC takeover a bad idea

Full story: San Gabriel Valley Tribune

Robert Dynes hasn't been president of the UC system for over a year. The president is now Mark G. Yudof and his base salary is nearly $600,000 with his total compensation package topping out at over $800,000.

Your data are a bit dated, and you missed a major point about the UC budget. Dynes left the UC Presidency a year ago. The present President, Yudof, pulls in twice Dynes' salary, way more than the two new Chancellors. That greed is truly excessive and unnecessary, and the Regents should re-think that when they hire the next President. A large fraction of the UC budget comes from Federal research funding - and that is money that comes in to California to boost the economy in many ways. I agree with you about Romero and Yee, though, for the reasons you state - the one sure-fire way to wreck UC would be to have direct legislative control.
