The mayor is only another symptom of the underlying
problem in Macon, that being the citizenry,
in general.
Macon is populated by an overabundance of thieves,
thugs, rapists, robbers and people who see no
problem with them.
Imagine if the local news actually reported on
All the violent crimes occurring daily in town:
The already innumerable "For Sale" signs on
residential and commercial real estate would
double. The mall would have shut down by now if
women had gotten wind of all the attacks, rapes
and robberies that have happened in and around
that area.
If you own any property in Macon, you might want to
consider selling now, that is if your not already
stuck, or worse yet, trapped, with it having lost
nearly all it's value.
Many former residents of Macon have been forced to
become landlords in order to get any value out of
their former homes.
I sold my burglary-prone properties well over
a year ago. Now I'm just another commuter.

totally correct, alot of crime goes unreported in macon, either by the media/police or the victims just dont bother calling it in.

We had a shooting over on pionono the other night, this one thug shot this other thug over 5 dollars, nothing about it at all on the news.

I agree. Three years ago I purchased a house on the westside of macon that I am attempting to renovate. In my short tenure in this city my house has been broken into three times, most recently in the last three weeks. fortunately, for my family, a neighbor saw the perpertrators, called the police and they were apprehended inside my house. One of them had a gun. I am seriously considering completing my renovation and either selling or renting the property. Macon just doesn't seem safe to me. If viable, concern citizens of Macon continue to flee, who will be left behind? Only the most vulnerable, who will continue to be preyed upon.

"an overabundance of thieves,
thugs, rapists, robbers" exists everywhere. You can't be closeminded or ignorant and think that by commuting that you're actually running away. Crime will follow, its only a matter of time. These are the ridiculously crazy times that we live in and it will only get worst......

I live in Tn now. I have for 16 years. I get back to macon whenever I can to see family. I have grown very ashamed of my loved hometown. Every time I get back there I say, it can't get worse but then on another visit I see it getting worse. I wish the city would do something but Macon's power structure over the last 40 years has always be unwilling to better Macon. Now that it's in the trash heap.......... not much else can be done.

MOST OF THE PEOPLE IN MACON DON'T SEEM TO THINK OF VIOLENT CRIME AS ABNORMAL BEHAVIOR.
MAYBE IT'S JUST A CULTURAL THING US REFUGEES DIDN'T WANT TO ACCEPT, SO WE JUST LEFT TOWN.

I work with teenagers. Speaking with them on a daily basis, I found that most of them think nothing of crime or hurting others. They think it is the most fun in the world to cut someone down and degrade them. Im not saying all are the same but a majority love to do that sort of thing.. I must ask WHY???

My earlier comments were meant to point out the fact that many residents of "Maconga" have no problem with all the violence directed at innocent citizens. It's as if crime directed at law abiding, productive, tax-paying people is excusable, maybe as some twisted form of "reparations" for perceived past wrongs.

A violent culture is not my cup of tea.

Murder, rape, robbery, battery, theft and other crimes are just the video portions to the sound of all the "boomin' sys'ems" in Macon.

No matter what your ethnicity, Macon is not a safe place to live, anymore.

Just because I'm a white guy doesn't mean my "flight" is some form of "racism".
I just prefer not to live in such a dire cultural situation.

My self imposed segregation helps to better insure my family's safety.

True, there are no guarantees, but I can certainly read the writing on the walls and enhance my odds of not being victimized by moving where the threat of violent crime is less of a problem.

If the threat of violence lessens with certain changes in demographics, so be it.

The reason my comments were a yr and a half after you first posted your opinion is because I just in the past month or so started visiting Topix. I visit basically in my hometown's chat area.

Macon is the home town of the most beautiful woman that ever lived. She grew up there during the forty and fifty. Born in June 29th, 1938 and died March 22, 2000. When I think of her. I think of macon. How can a city that was the home of this beautiful angel turn into what it is now. I'm writing this to wish her a happy 71st birthday if she was still alive.... There is a GOD..... Because, I knew one of his angels.
