Why is it when these thugs commit these crimes the mother claims "that her baby could never do anything like this?" I am so sick of thugs.

I'm sick of the illiterate mothers that can't speak English. These people have lived in this country their whole life, but when they speak, you would think they were from a foreign country just learning English. I had to tell a black guy that I couldn't understand what he was saying.

Why is that everytime a crime happens, the race card is being pulled out. In my opinion a criminal is a criminal whether he is black, white, purple, brown, or green. You'll should spend more time trying to help the police catch criminals than on here trying to start a race war on the internet.

Maybe because, in Memphis, 90% of the time it just happens to be an "African American." But you know what, Memphis and Collierville are chock full of dark skinned eastern Indians, and you will never, ever read of them committing a single crime. The work hard and are an asset to the community.

Hey everyone, this didn't happen in Memphis, it didn't happen in Shelby County. I grew up with these people went to school with them. I won't say whether or not they did kill this woman, but I have read several articles and quotes on this particular piece of news. The mother has not said that he couldn't or didn't do it, she is saying that please collect as much evidence as possible and then convict. I have to agree that a cigarette lighter doesn't constitute sufficient evidence. That particular area it could have easily fallen out of his pocket at another time. I agree what is the other evidence? I know that it won't be revealed until trial but I am a little curious.

let's not jump to quick just because he's been in jail before doesn't mean that this man is a killer he talked to this ladys husband on the phone and then he drag her to the woods and killed her sounds like it's out of tune, kind like someone else did the killing

O K then who stole his lighter and placed it at the crime scene? The same kind of lighter that his family describes as him owning.

i am a resident of tipton county and very familiar with the "bluff", first i would like to say this is not in shelby county nor memphis but tipton county. If one were familiar with the area, one would know that it's a close area where everyone knows everyone and people walk around the area all of the time. I feel there is no reason to assume that just because a lighter was found there means he is to blame because of what i have previously stated. On the contrary, when someone is being charged with murder, there has to be sufficient evidence, some which the police may not be able to speak on. The Tipton county Sherrif does an awesome job in taking care of his county and i believe they will bring those responsible to justice.

It's a lot I could say about how it could've played out but due to respect for both families I won't. I too was born n raised in T-County and I know everybody on Richardson Landing Rd.Yes he has a criminal background but there is just something about this case that just doesn't add up. You gonna say on national tv that a cigarette lighter lead you to him,OMG?? Maybe after ALL the evidence is revealed the picture will be clearer but as of right now a lot of fog is hovering over this case.I pray RICKEY BELL is innocent and they catch the right person.

The Tipton County Sheriff’s Department would not charge someone unless they had the evidence they needed. It is not a black, white, green, orange, or yellow issue; it is a man who just got out of prison in February who has a very violent history. Most mothers will say that their child would not do anything like this. But the problem with society today is most of these parents (mother or father) don’t have a clue what their child has done because they are not involved in their lives. This is Tipton County, not Memphis or Shelby County. Our lives here are different and that’s why we choose to live here. Leave race out of this and let the Sheriffs Department do their job. We don’t need people from somewhere else to make statements that they don’t have a clue about. Get a grip people and realize that more than likely this man is guilty! The Sheriff’s Department is not going to put all their cards down until the proper time. Being the great country that we are, the courts will decide guilt or innocents!

Let me start by saying the Harris family have my deepest sympathy.I agree with you but some of these comments are simply mean. I was born n raised in T-County, have family there n go to church there n I'm on richardson landing rd every weekend so I don't consider myself an outsider. I don't know for sure he did this, if he's guilty beyond a reasonable doubt punish him. I just can't help but to wonder how many people would want to hang him if he was white n she was black???? Just wondering....

I grew up in Drummonds, Tennesse. This town has always been quiet. I do not think that Rickey Bell did this crime. True he mayhave had some brushes with the law. Just because of this it still does not make him a murderer. If this poor helpless lady (Starr Harris) were beaten by Mr. Bell, where is the blood, bloody clothes, fingerprints, DNA. Listen people a murder have been commited here. This is a serious! serious! matter. It doesn't matter white, black, red, or yellow. We need to investigate to the fulliest and get the right person who did this terrible thing. Do you really think that a person would have asked Mrs. Harris to call her husband to let them talk to each other. And then turn around and kill her. Now a 10-year old will have more since than that. This was a real brutal murder. Look like someone else did this and just want to plant this on another criminal. But, donot forget. Rickey Bell is a excon not a murder. It seems that the way that investergators stated that she was beaten maybe it goes back in history. It seems a though maybe a family member had something to do with this. The investergator was talking about a lighter linking Mr. Bell to the crime scene. Just remember Rickey Bell used to ride to and from work with Star Harris husband "Rick" He could have place the lighter at the scene. What time frame did Mrs. Harris die. It could of been done before Mr. Harris went to work. Mrs. Harris was going to leave Mr. Harris right? Th investrgators should want to get the right person. That all right Mr. Bell lawyers will tear holes all through this case. I thin Mr. AL Sharkton will visit the town of Covington, Tennessee. This case will be watched closely!!!
