Want to laugh? We all received blue trash cans for our recyclables. Yesterday was our trash day on 2400 block of Manor Ave in Drexel Hill. Everyone on the street had their blue trash cans out along with our regular trash ....well guess what I witnessed? The trash men emptied every single blue can in with our regular trash (same trash truck). Can someone explain to me how this is considered recycling?

Yeah, that's been going on all over Drexel Hill. Please, go to a Council meeting and complain about it, otherwise nothing will change. Over the past few Council meetings, there've been complaints from citizens about this and the number has been growing each month. Maybe Council will finally do something about it if enough of us complain. After all, we ARE paying taxes for these guys to serve us, so serve us already...

Our recyclables go out the day before trash day. Are you sure yours are not the same?

Problem is that the recycling truck only comes every 2 weeks (sometimes a longer time than that when there's a holiday). So if someone's blue recycling can is out there with the trash the week in between pick-ups, the trash-men are throwing out the recyclables too, which is a problem...

Nice to see that enough people badgered U.D. Council about the recycling pickups to actually force Council (grudgingly) to change the practice to once-a-week pick-ups. That's what it seems to take to get anything done in this Township.

On that note, I received a flier the other day, which I looked up on the Net and confirmed to be true, that 9 of the 11 current U.D. council members were APPOINTED to their position, rather than elected (including our mayor!). How is that for an "elected" position, almost 90% of our Council was appointed by the "higher-ups" rather than chosen by voters? No wonder our taxes are so high, with this kind of corruption. Sheesh.

Anyway, I also recently found out -- which can be confirmed on the Net -- that our illustrious Council members are receiving FULL-TIME health benefits AND a pension from the township (worth over $20,000 a year and paid for by taxpayer money). This for what is a $5,000 per year PART-TIME job! When one of my neighbors asked Councilwoman Jeanne Koroly, one of the people receiving these benefits, why she's entitled to receive over $20k in benefits for a part-time job, Ms. Koroly's response was "I've been a Republican committee person for over 20 years." That's her rationale!

It's sad that this is the the kind of thinking and entitlement our Council members possess. They don't serve us... they serve themselves. How else to justify deserving over $20k in taxpayer money simply because someone's been a member of a political party? I've been a registered independent voter for almost 20 years, and it makes me wonder what was I thinking? Here I could've been getting paid for being a member of a political party instead of paying taxes so someone else could! Argh.

Lastly, before anyone turns this into a partisan issue, I'm against one-party government of any type. This is the same crap that goes on in Philly, only with a different party. When one party alone gets in power, bad things happen to that community. We're seeing it in our township too, unfortunately...

With that said, it's Election Day today. So get out and vote like I'm going to do. Otherwise, nothing's ever going to change...
