Paul W. McNeely has been in prison at the London Correctional Institution since his murder conviction in 1977 for the fatal shooting of Coshocton Patrolman Sanford Stanley on July 19, 1976. I can not believe this man is still in prison. This happened when I was 15 in Coshocton. Paul McNeely I do not know. But even as young as I was everyone in Coshocton Ohio knew that Patrolman Stanley was a playboy and chased women. It was all over town and the Police Department was crooked as a dogs hind leg. Most of them any how. Thats why they were shut down in 1981. Now did Patrolman Stanley deserve to die? No. But he was told time and time again to stay away from McNeelys wife. Stanley was praised as most of the crooked police officers were back then. There where hundreds of police officers from all over the United States who came to town that day. But for what? For a man who distroyed another mans marriage? Life? Im a true believer that Mr McNeely has paid for his crime over and over again. And Mr Stanford Stanley is paying for his wrong doing for ever. Im sure its never cold where he is at. Dont get me wrong I have a brother that was a 26 year retired Chief of Detectives of our local Sheriff's office. Not all cops are bad, But most of the Coshocton Police Department was. I believe 30 long years is time enough spent. He should be let go. And I say again I did not know either of them. But I do believe that the people of Coshocton Ohio should speak out that knew them and what was going on and go to the Parole Board. That is my Opinion

Mike Cox needs to get an education before he passes judgement on issues that he knows nothing about. Killing is never okay where I come from. Is that not the case in Coshocton. What is going to stop McNeeley from killing again if his next wife or girlfriend decides to cheat on him.

Did you also know that all but 3 of those crooked cops ( i use the term loosely), were hired by the sheriffs office? This whole justice system is so corrupt today it isn't funny. Rich Pica was caught dealing cocain, no action taken except removal from sheriffs office. Dave Hostetler (judge, use the term loosely again). has been caught drunk driving on many occasions, no action taken. This was not released in the Coshocton tribune. It was released in the Zanesville paper. So we are no better off than before.
Jad you need to learn that you pass judgement on to other and God is the only ont that can do that. Stanly was forcing the mans wife to have sex with him over tickets he issued to her wrongly. I for one am glad the s.o.b. is dead. I remember this case well. Please do not pass judgement to others. He may have went a little overboard, But remember this, If you were in the same situation, you would probably do the same thing.

Are you serious? I don't care what Stanley was doing. There is NO reason to kill a police officer or anyone else. The fact that you say that you're glad he's dead says it all about you. You are a moron but you're right McNeely shouldn't still be in prison, he should have been executed long ago.

Very interesting post here. How do you know the corrupt officer was forcing the wife to have sex over tickets? I have heard several accounts of this Officer being corrupt, but never heard this account. I am interested to know where I can find out the facts on this case and what was truly said at the trial

I was less than 100 feet away when this happened, my family and i lived right above the fire/police station but i was out in front of the fire station when it happened. It scared the daylights out of my friend and me. Officer Stanley may have done some wrong things in his life but nothing deserving of being gunned down. I remembered being seriously injuried as a youth several years before that an officer Stanley was the first on site and transported me to the hospital. R.I.P.

But I do believe that the people of Coshocton Ohio should speak out that knew them and what was going on and go to the Parole Board. That is my Opinion Mr. Cox where do you come up with this stuff? Officer Stanley was shot by Paul McNeely at Approximately 9:12 pm on July 19th 1976 inside the Coshocton Police Station when McNealy walked in an open side door and shot an unarmed Officer Stanley with a 12 gauge shot gun and then followed Officer Stanley through the station shooting Stanley in the back with a 22 magnum pistol. McNeely who had been convicted of two counts of armed robbery and grand larceny had been sentenced to concurrent 10 to 25 year terms and was paroled after serving a little more than three years. Had McNeely not been paroled he would have been in prison that night instead of killing Officer Stanley. You may review The Times Reporter, New Philadelphia, Thursday, March 31,1977 “McNeely recalls events of the day patrolman was killed”. Connie McNeely testified that her husband (Paul) had a drinking problem which led to their separation, and her relocation to Virginia, and that Paul at times became argumentive and violent. Paul McNeely testified that Officer Stanley had stopped him on Rt 16 for striking a guardrail earlier; McNeely did not remember any conversation between himself and Officer Stanley nor did he know why Officer Stanley did not cite him. Further testimony was given that prior to the shooting McNeely got into a scuffle with a patron at the Green Lantern Inn and stated,“such people should be killed.” This patron may have been the McNeely’s victim had Officer Stanley not stopped him. Mr. Cox, the parole board has denied Paul W McNeely parole because they base their decision on the facts of the case, the inmate and not the B.S. that you wrote. You’re entitled to your opinion but you do not have the right to slander Officer Stanley.

Unbelievable. Mr. Cox and Mr. Coshocton Man...you two are amazing. I am originally from Cincinnati, raised in Columbus, and retired at the rank of Patrol Sergeant from one of the larger PD's in WV after 24 years, 4 months, and 16 days. Planned on serving longer...but a lunatic like Paul McNeely took that away from me, along with damaging my left eye, fifth cervical vertebrae, and 11% of my right leg. Never saw him before that Saturday afternoon that we met, he wasn't married and I wasn't messing with his wife, he just didn't like cops...just like your Paul McNeely.
I was a Police Officer when this happened, just as I was when the same type of deranged madman killed Lt. Jerry Dragosin at Cambridge PD. Your assertion that Mrs. McNeely was "forced" to have sex with Officer Stanley in relation to traffic tickets is pure BS...a complaint to the Attorney Generals Office and or BCI would have handled that very quickly, even in 1976. Don't even try to to give me the "it was a small town...the cops could do anything" BS - there were other options to take then chasing an unarmed man around shooting him in the back. At least the perp that crippled me did it head on while I was in my unit and I had a chance to engage him the best that I could until my backup arrived. Stanley had no chance at all.
Mr. Cox and Mr. Coshocton Man, if you can deep in your hearts respect and condone the actions of Paul McNeely and want someone like that back on the streets...so he can kill the next person that "steps on his toes" or "messes with what's his"...YOU deserve to cross his path some dark night on Rt.16 or somewhere and find out what a really nice guy people like him are. You three deserve one another...
