MY SON IS GOING TO GO TO GLENN MILLS SCHOOL IN PA. IM TRYING TO OBTAIN INFORMATION ABOUT THIS SCHOOL. I'VE HEARD THERE HAVE BEEN ISSUES OF CONCERN IN THE WAY OF PUNISHMENT. IN PA ARE JUVENILE OR SCHOOLS ALLOWED TO PUT THEIR HANDS ON THE CHILDREN aLSO CAN YOU PROVIDE ME WITH SOME TYPE OF ADDRESS OR PHONE NUMBER REGARDING NEGATIVE AND POSITIVE BACKGROUND ON THIS SCHOOOL

Excuse my language. I do not believe that they shoulkd have the rigjht to put their hands on someone elses child even if they are there for Discipline or what not. Beating a child is not the solution that is going to make the child act right if anything it will make the problem worse in my opinion.

I have a son at glenn mills too. he is saying the same thing is there any thing as a parent we can do?

You can activate information at the website www.glenmillsschools.org or www.glenmillsschools.com . I worked there several years ago and I still keep in contact with a couple of my old colleagues. As far as i know, they still follow their 7 levels of de-escalation. The 7th level being a physical restraint if the child is non-compliant to the first 6 levels. Staff just putting there hands on a kid to do it is rediculous. The kids saying this are the kids that are not adjusting to the program. yada yada yada. call the school (610) 459-8100. IF you are the parent, you should have received this info from your childs probation officer.

My son, is going to be place at Glenn Mills. I don't have any information about the school other then what on the internet. Please email with any information.

Are they really going to reinstitute caning and the stocks?

Hey yeah.. I had been a student at Glen Mills for about 8 1/2 months. Its true... If u talk shit or even give a dirty look to one of the "staff" guys... you'll get ur ass kicked... If u swing back at the "staff" a shit load of staff will come running... They would tell us that the Judge knows about this and it doesnt matter if we report it or not. It is wrong.. im no just stating this becuase i got my ass kicked becuase i didnt... Just letting you know that the current statements are true.

I am now 28, and i was at Glen Mills When i was 16 & 17. I was there for about 14months. All the stories you here from kids are absolutely true! This place is a very nice school and all that on the surface but trust me, it is a mental prison. Staff at Glen Mills know how to cover these things up very well, they have been doing it for some time. They say there are levels,,, BULLSH*T! I have seen many times where these a@@holes who work there take complete advantage of thier power. The guys that work there beat these kids black and blue, all of which will be on the chest area mostly. The kids are not allowed any contact with family after they have been "touched". Kids are also not allowed to mention this to thier family, PO, Judge or anybody or they will be punished again. I have read stories about kids trying to tell there story but GM always covers it up. I would really like to get the truth out there even after all these years because parents have the right to know the TRUTH! Lets remember that the Glen Mills School is "punishment". Students do not go here by choice; they are ordered here by the courts in an effort to change and re-shape a life destine for failure. Children at Glen Mills have committed crimes ranging from murder to drug charges. All crimes that could have sent these youths to a youth prison or perhaps an adult prison. With any corrections facility there is going to be physical restrainment when necessary. Everyone deserves a second chance, and in most cases the children at Glen Mills have had several. This is their last chance and I give the Glen Mills School credit for offering reformment as the last alternative for childhoods that have been devistated by crime. While a child attends Glen Mills they have choices to make. All are encouraged to continue their education, and several even receive scholarships, both academic and for sports. If anyone feels that any individual is not being treated fairly at the school I am sure there are ways to file petitions or by contacting the state.

They have a very nice golf course there.

I was told by a friend that his son is allowed to come home for Christmas. I would like to know who is paying for the trip and why are they allowed home visits. If they are in Glenn Mills order by the courts why is incentitive given to them. If youb are sent to a Juvenille facility they are not allowed to come home so why are these kids allowed. Please advise. I am concern that not only are we paying for the inmates incarcerated now we have to pay for Juveniles Christmas vacation also.

Are you kidding! These are children, not inmates. And yes, concerned tax payer, these are school taxes at work, along with state grants. Would you rather see them spent on something such as a higher salary for a superintendent that does nothing or used to give a child another chance at becoming a successful and contributing citizen of the community. Maybe you can get involved with some sort of youth activity in your area, and help these children in another way instead of looking out your window to see what the neigbors are doing.

The posts are interesting-I had heard things had changed since I was a kid in the Philadelphia area in the 40s when we used to hear rumors about shit going down at Glen Mills.I heard there was a book about the changes-has anyone seen it/read it-what do you think of the truth or not of the book's contentions that it has "turned around" since the middle of the century(and before).

Glen Mills is not a last resort placement for juveniles. I was charged with aggravated assault, not murder or drug charges. So PREVIOUS STUDENT, you were probably one of the SPORTS STARS because you must have had some special treatment to not think there is some wrong things going on there. It is way more than physical restraint!

For the record, i followed all the rules there. I was not a bad kid, i made one mistake and ended up there. I was tricked by the GMS representative and my PO. They told me it was this great school and blah blah blah, so i said sure ill go instead of VQ. Well little did i know! Also, my family had to pay for me to be there, so not only are they helping some kids and destroying others but they are making alot, a WHOLE LOT of money doing it!
Lets just say that ol' Mr.Ferrinola is living very well off of beaten and emotionally abused children. So anybody that supports this place needs to be imprisoned just like he should be!
