Hey whatever helps the economy..
Big Shiny SUVS??? Didn't you just read she is not going to be able to get her new car she needs.
Most of these people know how to handle their finances much better than you do. They dont take their crazy vacations and buy cars they can't afford. They dont have credit card debt like most americans do. I know all my family does not at least. We dont go and purchase things just so it looks like we have money. A quincenera is just a part of culture, not a status thing.

LOL. Of course they can afford it. All you need are several cases of Bud Light, some carne asada, a little music, and bam, you have yourself a quincenera. 10k, please.

I agree, this could be college money or savings.

My daugher has been in 3 "Quinceanera " since last year and has gone to maybe 3 other ones. Some families pool there money or some grandparents just pickup the tab. The things you do for love

Heck I dont care if it is carne asada, a ghetto blaster and unlimited budweiser, if it is a party and the expense is down and everyone has a good time I dont care what the status of that person is or how much money they spent, a party is party and good times are good times. Expense is not the point here, having fun by choosing to do it inexpensive is the smart way to go. No one cares the next day if you had a $10,000 party or a $500 dollar party it does not matter as long as they had a good time and have a hangover. BUDWEISER WILL DO THAT TO YOU. It is what you can afford and make the best of it.

what Ive seen over the years- from family, neighbors, acquaintances, co workers.
-poor families getting into debt to have the party.
-the daughter causes a stink when she cant play her music and the parents want banda/corridos played.
-fights break out because of the drunk people.
-police show up to quiet the noise
-family introduces the daughter to society- but shes already known as being loose.
-soon after the quinceanera- the girl is pregnant.
-waste of money in many cases.
-they overspend on stuff (do you really need a HUMMER limo?)

what else am I missing?

This particular family doesn't seem to be able to handle their finances very well. If you can not afford to buy a car that is NEEDED, how can one shell out such an extravagant amount of money for this event? In addition, while I realize that it is a part of culture, it also becomes part of a status thing when so much has to be spent on it. I think the need to educate the parents on higher education for this girl will carry her much further in life. On the program "My Sweet Sixteen", those parents also shell out BIG bucks for their parties. Oh yeah, I forgot!! Those parents already have good paying jobs, own a house, a car, and CAN afford it.

It actually hurts the economy if these idiots don't pay their bills, because everyone else is left picking up the tab. And for what, some lameAss party for a daughter that's already been ridden hard and put away wet?

i just had a sweet 16 for my daughter who very well deserved her day. We also have money set aside for her college. This is part of our culture and should stay that way regardless of the economy. My husband and I paid for the whole party but usually the sweet 15 has several sponsors who pay for different items such as the dress, cake, food, music and d.j. so it's about 200-400 a sponsor whice isn't bad at all. I'm pround our us latinos at least have some tradition left unlike others. DON'T HATE..

its a shame that some folks would rather appear to have money by throwing it all away on on Quincenera, than to really prioritize and get themselves out of this hole they are in... and this is what they are teaching their kids as well. shame shame shame...

My party for this weekends fight is costing $500. I am going to love seeing Pretty boy Mayweather kick the snot out of Sugar SHAME Mosley. Call it a quincinera or whatever for $500 this will be a great party not to mention very low budget. BBQ food galore with lots of drinks. It is so on!.
