As a teenager we could come from Lakewood, which seemed like a day trip - Lakewood to Downey, just to cruise through the lot. After we bought gas, at .25 cents a gallon, sometimes we did not have enough money left for food. Good Times!

Those cute high school girl car hops you remember? Yeah, they've been replaced by 50 year old mexican men.

So much anger, even in a positive story like this one. I really feel sorry for you.

Well. Even 50 year old Mexican men deserve to make a living. And, by the way, they are not car hops.

I am very happy to see that the city council of Downey has finally come to their senses before all of the vintage businesses were destroyed. I can remember when they demanded that all of the old vintage signs, like the McDonalds sign and the Johny's sign be torn down and replaced with monument signs. Downey was generic and beige. And boring. Thanks for bringing at least some of it back Mayor Guerra.

Wow !!! Great news! I moved out of stae 5 years ago and am back in Socal for a brief visit and Bob's is on my agenda for a meal while here. I have so many fond memories of going to Bob's in Pasdena, etc. growing up. I am so happy to see the troubled property in Downey reborn...can't wait to see it !!! Congrats to Bob's!!!!!!!!!!

Growing up in Long Beach, my favorite childhood restaurant was the Bob's Big Boy in Los Altos Center on Bellflower Bl. I was so heartbroken when it became a video outlet.

I was still in California when Bob's made a comeback. I used to frequent the one in Calimesa, right up until I moved to Nashville in 2004.

Now, the closest one is 600+ miles away in North Carolina, or about the same distance to one in Indiana.

I miss those Big Boy burgers...would LOVE to see one out here, one of the many things I miss from California! Can't have it all, I guess...

Cool. So glad the City didn't let that guy tear down the building. Can't wait to take my 7-year old son to Bob's and let him discover what a car-hop is.

You are an idiot. Last night at Harvey's I saw a very cute latina car hop and everytime she went by the guys would whoop and holler. There were only young people carhops.

They shouldn't be competing for jobs intended for high school and college girls, nor should they be making a career of it. Grow a brain, you ridiculous person.

Sounds like a classy establishment, perfect for the kiddies.
Isn't it always when a lot of Latina's get together?
Just give it time, sparky. Jose will eventually be your waiter.

Not supplying the address in a story about the opening of a new restaurant is just Mr. Smith's cutting edge style of reporting that keeps the reader in suspense.
Stay tuned to his next article: New Bob's Big Boy: The Address."

Actually, unless these high school girls can skip school to work during the day, I dont think they will be applying for the indoor table service positions. They will be the car hops that will work evenings. I have yet to see high school girls in restaurants.
Usually they are college kids who can work around their class schedule. Sorry to hear about your brain.
