lol So would mine. I was so exhausted after driving to Pigeon Forge recently, and as soon as I unloaded my things and put them in the hotel room he starts, Lets go to the Bass pro shops now. Ughhh! We'd end up broke if they did put one out here, so maybe it's good that the closest ones are in Gwinnett co. and over in Al. lol

Hiram? Nooooooo, Douglasville gets more business than Hiram due to the mall and being right off of I-20. The reason why a lot of places closed is due to high rent and taxes. Add that on a decrease in sales, due to the economy and it was a recipe for disaster. Most businesses here have survived. If they survived this long, I think they will do just fine. Also some places that closed here were as a result of tax evasion on a few, and others were chain stores that filed bankruptcy and reorganized shutting down their less than productive stores. Some just didn't renew their leases at the mall, because I hear CBL charges hefty rent.
Bass Pro Shop is like Cracker Barrel and Harley Davidson, they usually build right off the interstate for the increased drive-by traffic. I was in BPS yesterday, they're clearing out their summer clothing with some decent deals and there appears to be a lot of the stuff. They sure did have a bunch of boats too, not a lot of room for the Santa setup.

Can't believe that archery packages have hit the grand mark, I had my hands on a bow that was priced at $899 and I didn't even recognize the name on it.

Wow, back in the day my $200 PSE bow was the bomb diggity.

Oh, well deer hunting is lame to me now anyway. Now put me in a duck blind and I'll show you some fun hunting.

I guess some folks couldn't hit the side of a barn with an arrow if they were standing inside the barn, unless they had a $1000 worth of confidence in their hands. I've got an old Browning compound that has a wooden laminated riser and limbs that in its day was 100% accruate to 40 yards and put a lot of meat in the freezer. Learn to shoot what ya got.

Yep, if the Indians can do it with a stick and string then do you really need to invest all that into a compound bow? Hunting has become a big buisness and many sportsman have bought into the hype.

There was a plan to put a Bass Pro Shop on I-85 in Coweta County a few years ago, but that was was before everything went down hill.

It sure has. They want it to be "Bought in a box", simple hunting, pick up our product and Mr. Big Rack'll be on your wall. I'd target shoot all spring and summer and if I didn't think I could put three arrows dead center, I wouldn't even consider going as I didn't want to wound game. Then you hear about these places that would, for a fee, let you shoot an animal they just let out of a box. WTF is that? Someone should put them in a box....

Well therein lies the answer to many of America's woes....everybody wants something just handed to them without having to put in the work to get it.

Not a fan of "Canned" hunting either.

That Bass Pro shop is a store that only caters to the white man. Ya'll need more brotha stores in D'ville because there are more of us coming. We are taking over and we're going to keep squeezing you white people over the Alabama line. hahahahahahahahaha

Wow, that was a racist post.

I've met plenty of black people that like to fish and some that hunt as well.

Me and my black friends use to go fish up at Allatoona all of the time. They moved away, so I do not have my fishing buddies anymore. : (

It was SUPPOSE to be built here. The county turned it down rumors are because of Gables. They went ahead and built in Lees, Al. About 1 1/2 hours up I-20. We were also SUPPOSE to get the Sports Authority. Again, the good ole' boy network refused because of Gables.

Gables prices on guns are too high.

I want to purchase a Ruger LCR in .38 Special and I know of a place in Gainsville that sells them around $375. I'm sure that Gables probably are selling those for close to $500.

Stoddards prices are not much better.

Gables has been around forever, but they are just too high. Even things like batting gloves cost almost twice as much at gables.

Geez my husband and I went fishing at West Point last week.
We crappie fish under the Wehadkee bridge. Both nights the same pontoon boat was there too. Guess what there were 2 black men and a white man.......the white man owned the boat. We've been fishing there (West Point) for years and see a great number of blacks fishing in bass boats.....expensive ones too.

That's great news. I'm not sure I could have afforded having a Bass Pro Shop in my back yard. Cannot get out of that place for less than $100.

My last trip was over $200. I love bass pro shops, don't get me wrong. It's just that I know my husband and my Tom boy Daughter. We'd have a 4 wheeler, a new boat, camo out the wazoo, new hunting rifles and anything else he can spend money on. He won't drive to the one up 85, so I am good for now. Let them build one here or close, and that's it. My days of shopping are over. LOL

I think in 15 years I've been in Gables three times. Anything they sell I can get elsewhere cheaper or I buy on line.
