Why do they keep changing it every year? It has been a different portal every year since my daughter was in 6th grade. She is now in 9th grade. Now the tab that use to say grade where you can see what was the last grade posted as well as the average for the classes without going into each class individual is gone.

There should be some kind of county wide requirement on how often teachers should update parent portal. My youngest daughter in middle school all of her teachers seem to update it about once per week. My oldest daughter they only update it when a progress report is due. What is the point of parent portal if the teachers only update it when progress reports are due? You can wait until the progress report or final report if that is the case.

Boy, ain't that the truth. Just a waste of everybody's time and tax dollars, if you ask me. It's never updated on a regular basis, and why can't they just send you the password. Every year I have to take time off from work just to go up there and get the run-around about the damn password. Damn if you do, damn if you don't.

Just curious, public schools don't use "En-grade"? My children's high school and college use "En-grade"
(Dang, that makes me sound old,......but I'm not.)

In the "En-grade" program, the teachers update all the grades weekly. At the beginning of each school year, we go into the program and set up our own pass word.

Why would they want to do something that makes sense? I think they would rather us NOT know about the grades until it's almost too late to do anything, because that way they can just drift through the day, get their paycheck, and avoid as much parental confrontation as possible. They treat parents like we are all disgruntled customers and best to be avoided at all costs.

your county, too? If parents know what's going on they'll know the school system employees are lazy and sorry! Keeping parents clueless means the teachers can blame them!

You don't have to go in to the office to get your password, you can go online to the school website, click on the link for parents, then click on the link for parent portal. If you don't have an activation code use that link and using your child's ID number and SSN, and birth date, you can get the code and set up your own user id and password.

Why does the county use a different portal? Because the last was crappy and the one before that cost too much money! The board was actually trying to use money wisely and help teachers/parents with ease of use.

For finding the grades all at once, go to grades and click there on the parent portal. To find all scores for all assignments click on schedule and the click the little "red" assignment paper, and all the scores will appear for that class.

Why teachers don't update regularly? Not sure, but could be they have a life outside the classroom and they want to spend just a tiny bit of it with their family. Why don't they do it during planning? Because we have to attend the parent conferences of students whose parents want to complain about us, or we are in a SPED conference coming up with individual lesson plans so that we can help all students achieve, or we are planning the next unit we will be teaching and filling in all the required paperwork on units (KUD, SLM, ALPs, etc), or we're in a training meeting on how to use the Promethean board (oh wait, we have to all the lessons required at home in a week), or in a training meeting to learn about the new GA Common Core Performance Standards (the 3rd change in curriculum in 8 years), or we just had to sit on the toilet and breath!!!

Give us a break! Your parents never had portal or never had a clue what you had in class as a grade until the report card came out. You survived and so did your parents!!!

Thanks for letting me vent.

Well, it would be nice if the school would tell us this information instead of us having to hear it word of mouth on a topic board.

I just called this week and was told, yet again, I would have to come to the office for the password.

No shit, really? You mean teachers have lives? Did not know that.

Thanks for letting ME vent!

Back when I was in school the teachers actually gave a damn.

You actually made a good argument for not enough time in the day. I can almost understand. Question: Does the public school system not have any parent volunteers,..like a room mom (or dad)? Surely in your daily schedule (time management) not on your own time you can grade and enter the info for the benefit of the kids. I would like to believe that if parents know whats going on, on a daily/weekly basis, they could help you, as a teacher with home work, studying LEARNING MANNERS for you. Just a thought. Send the Board of Edu. a letter a week until they get you some HELP. Good luck. Sincerely

Hell, none of us have enough time in the day. This is not the kids' fault, and it seems like there is a lot of passive-aggressive behavior where the teachers just act like they do not give a damn anymore and take it out on the kids. Nope, I do not feel sorry for for the teachers. My jobs sucks too, but I just have to deal with it. Nobody helps me get my work done.

I guess we all should find another line of work.

I could certainly take time out to do some data entry for them, but nobody has asked. Hell, put me on the payroll and I will enter it ALL in the system. No problem. They should not have spent the money on the software if it is unrealistic to keep it updated.

I am calling Monday morning to yet again volunteer my time. I did not know they had such bureaucratic propaganda BS to deal with. Sounds as bad as my job...always changing the rules. I have never seen myself as part of the problem but more as part of the solution. I have no problem spending 1 hour a week at each of my kid's classroom to help. I used to help but had an issue with the old cranky librarian at FSES (she is no longer there) and said to heck with it.

They really should send a parent alert on how to get into the portal. Age of communication, yet nobody communicates.

Why can't they hire someone to enter the information? Data entry is not a mystery and not difficult to learn. Are there not enough idle hands at the main office to help out? Why do they dump this administrative portion on the teachers. Isn't that what the administrators are for? This could easily be done.

Thanks for volunteering! I really appreciate it. I work hard to make sure the students learn. I send emails regularly to parents so they know what is going on. I get grades updated weekly and at times, I do fall behind. Mainly, its because some other fire came more important at school and I was asked to put it out. Then there is the home life. I really want to be there for my own personal children and family so it becomes a delicate balance. Sometimes the job gets the 40% and home gets the 60% and then its vice versa. My summer (it keeps getting smaller) is my comp time for all the over time in the year. Unfortunately, the breaks in the middle of the school year are full of training (yes!! from the state since no one school system is on the same schedule), and catching up from the weeks earlier. So summer is really just my family time. I hate to see it shrivel.

About parent volunteers... There are some in the school but by the time students get in middle and high school, those parents don't stop by as frequently so we secondary teachers don't get the help the elementary teachers do. But then we secondary teachers get two planning periods unlike the elementary students. But we end up going to meetings. Some of us only get 10 to 15 minutes of lunch and then we try and plan with our peers just to eek out time. Just a fact of life as a teacher and the nature of the job.

Do I mind all the extra work? Not some days, however, I enjoy what I do and I know I touch lives in a good way. However, when I read the paper (or Topix) I get discouraged because people seems to really despise teachers. I need to stop reading Topix....

If you want some guidance on how to log on to portal, I have a flyer I sent home to parents. It actually came from the county. Too bad more schools didn't send it out. If you'd like to see it, I can email it to you or link it to a web page. Let me know.

Your above information was very helpful for logging into Portal, and I thank you. I will be heading to Portal shortly thanks to your tips to see what my daughter is up to these days!

I do understand the delicate balance. We never have time for ourselves, huh? I actually get along with the teachers and realize as parents, moms, career women, wives, that we are all struggling to get through the day.

Yes, I am definitely going to be volunteering again, and that is due to your taking the time to voice your side of the argument. I just felt like once they got into the upper grades, our help was not needed, but thanks to your input I realize we can still help out!

You did a great thing by coming on here and explaining the situation. Enjoy your very much needed weekend!

@Kindred, The last 2 years you had to go to the school to get the password. This years it's a combo of your kids lunch number and name

When my daughter was in Factory Shoals it was fine. Most of the teachers updated the portal weekly. Now that my oldest go to Lithia the teachers didn't update the portal until a day before progress reports was due. I could have just waited for the progress report. I don't understand why they would offer something that we can't use.

Yes you are right our parents didnít have parent portal and we all survived. My mother also used cloth diapers Iím no trying to go back to that either. Having a parent portal that teachers donít update is like having a disposable diaper that you canít toss away. It defeats the purpose.

I have a daughter in high school. Her grades determine what college she will go to if any at all. If she is having problems in a class and the teachers donít update campus portal, donít answer your emails, or even call to tell you there is a problem in the 1st place, how do you correct the problem? By the time reports cards come itís too late the grades become part of your GPA.

I just donít understand how teachers always say they wish parents were more involved but block you at every turn. When my daughters were in elementary and middle schools their teachers were happy to hear from a parent. I donít know if itís all HS or just Lithia but I think the teachers there treat parents like a nagging wife.

Okay, it says:

User Name________
Pword_______

I have tried absolutely every combination possible. Which one gets the lunch number and which one gets the pword?

I am guessing the pword would be the lunch number.

How should I format the user name? I have tried every way possible?

I guess I can go up there Monday, but I am anxious to see her grades, especially math.

My daughter went to FSMS last 3 years and is now in LSHS!

Thanks for all your input!:)

You have to get an activation key. Click where it say obtain activation key. Student number is where the lunch number goes.

How has your experience with LSHS been?

Weren't you warned over a year ago to avoid Lithia because of administrative nightmares there? Teacher planning time is stolen by excessive IEP/SST/Professional Development/Staff meetings.

You were warned, you ignored the warning. Bad parent.
