So much hate from you because he is black doesnÂ’t mean that he canÂ’t handle the job: what is the job of the sheriff it doesnÂ’t have anything to do with management experience he is the department head. You are only as good as the people you surround yourself with; the sheriff is an elected official position as lo9ng as you have knowledge of the office and experience to lead you is good. If you have a problem with that then you need to take that up with the STATE OF GEORGIA: I PERSONNALLY think that Mr. Broughton will do a better job than the one we have in office now; be real about this once elected you have eight weeks of training that is put on by the GAORGIA SHERIFF ASSOCIATION everyone who is elected have to complete this class so they can be ready day one January 01.. Did you hear about the detention officer that ran for sheriff down south and won did a good job and was re-elected for a second term. LetÂ’s take race out of this and look at this for what it worth over 20 years of experience as a law enforcement is good enough for me we need new blood. Sheriff Miller time is up
It is hard to understand what you are saying. I will be clear Broughton is not wanted.

What ever is left of Douglas County will be lost forever if a person with no management, Investigative or leadership experience is elected into this office. Douglas County is one of the very few full service Sheriffs offices left in Metro Atlanta.

Broughton may be a fine Deputy, however there is more to it than just being a good deputy. Investigative experience or patrol experience is critical in understanding what the job entails.

For the comment about just "surrounding your self with good people". Thats not enough it todays world. If he is elected, be prepaired for the outcome

im sure he is a great guy, but transporting prisioners for 20 years does not give you sheriff quallities. being a master of the bbq grill does not either. I just hope people think with their heart and mind and not go with th change mentality. cnange might be good in some places but not all.

Phil Miller has the public fooled. He covers for corruption of officers, covers evidence and will not investigate drugs, drug dealers, petifiles and the investigation of leads in very serious crimes.Try to report drug activity, see what happens. Also guns and ammunition. In fact douglas actually participate kind of like the Secret Service.Be knowledgable of what is going on right under the public's nose.Investigate and you will find all this is true. But when you do not trust the authority you have Tyranny and you have another Chicago.Unfortunately this will not come out til after the election which is sad.God Bless and good luck citizens.

You have to remember that this is not your county; it belong to the citizens of Douglas County
You don’t want him because he is by the book and straight forward when it comes to policy.
Ooooo am sorry you must work for the Sheriff’s Department you keep talking about qualification, from
What I read about him he will make a dam good SHERIFF.(DERRICK T. BROUGHTON) miller don’t have a
Clue he’s been there 12 years as sheriff and hasn’t accomplished anything to me that’s lacking
Leadership, in this race miller will not be the winner, get use to Broughton being the sheriff I
I voted for miller in the primary because I am a republican but me and 3500 others want to see miller
Out of office his time is up. If you work for the county its best that you keep your comments limited.
Remember you don’t own Douglas County this is a free country that’s why I am doing my best to make
Sure that Broughton get in office he will I repeat he will be the next sheriff in Douglas County this is his
Year and if you don’t like it move out of the county. I’ve learn to live and deal with it I had the pleasure
Of meeting him a very good upstanding person.

Unfortunately most of us work and therefore don't qualify for any government programs that would enable us to move out of the county. We're trapped here in our homes while the government doubles the black population in this county and then turns around and tells everybody that white people "deserve" to have their lives and home towns turned over to undereducated ghetto trash. In the last 10 years the black population has doubled and so has the crime rate. Coincidence?

Admit it, you only want a black sheriff because he's black. It has NOTHING to do with your perception of the job he can do. You're clearly not smart enough to vote beyond color which is true of most racist blacks. Keep being on the outside, see if we care.

Some of you are sadly mistaken about Sheriff Miller. He has done agreat deal for Douglas County as Seriff. He is a politician but he is also a Sheriff you still up holds the Laws in Dougla County. If the Criminal Element dont like getting caught in Douglas County then STAY OUT! We have a Find Unit who does an absoulutly excellent job stopping trafficers in this county, a K-9 Unit who is very very involved in our community and a Pro Active Uniform Patrol Division. As Sheriff Mike Lewis Says " NO CRIMINAL HAS A CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO GO THROUGH HIS COUNTY UNDETECTED BY LAW ENFORCEMENT". DCSO has always made a GREAT impact on keeping the criminals out of our county. And they also have a great relationship with the Douglasville Police Dept. that everyone should also have great pride in. In closing, the citizens would only be inviting the criminal elements an open range if we do not support Sheriff Miller and continue to show that crime will not be tolerated in this county. The problem with the people who want to be elected in Law Enforcement today are just politicians. WE need the Law to stay in Law Enforcement and not soft hearted politicians who just try to please the public to keep office. Sheriff Miller we are proud of you as our Sheriff and know you will continue to move the county in the GREATEST way to SERVE AND PROTECTALL CITIZENS AND BUISINESS OWNERS. Those who have a problem with Miller only want someone in office they can control. Sheriff Miller You Are The Man!!

As I remember in 2008 Derrick Broughton got about 45% of the vote. That was impressive considering he was out spent many times by the incumbent Sheriff Phil Miller. Voting demographics have changed in 4 years. Broughton can win this race, it all depends on voter turn out. Democrats are expected to turn out heavily in November. Another factor is the independent/crossover voters. They represent about 1/3 of voters. Broughton only needs 5% of any voting block to win. Looks like Miller has a real race on his hands.

I agree ... the demographics have changed and Broughton has a good chance of being elected this November. The turnout though remains to be seen....supposedly the African American voter turnout may not reach the epic proportions it did in 2008.

Forgot to mention, Grob .. you are correct ... many of us are stuck in our homes here in Douglas...I would love to move as far out as Haralson but chances of selling anytime soon are slim to none, also have a house that will be paid off in a couple of years..I just don't see a bright future for Douglas...call me a pessimist if you like. The schools are deteriorating...and you used to have a pretty good system !

just because you say demographics have changed does not mean new voters will vote for Broughton, people moved out here for a reason. They know who will provide sound, safe law enforcment. Miller! A lot have things have changed but we still have one of the safest counties in metro atl. With a highber crime clearence rate then most!

I totally agree with your pragmatic take on this. Unfortunately when race-based voting takes place logic takes a back seat. For decades the image of young black men sitting in the white man's jail has been used to rally people to vote in black law enforcement as a counterbalance. It never works that way which is why we end up with Clayton county.

The only thing that will slow this down is keeping black voters entangled in the criminal justice system or some other underhanded means. Thanks to an efficient propaganda system there will be no white unity to save the day. After all, it was white people who caused all of this to happen to Douglas county.

Derrick Broughton walked through my neighborhood last week and I had a few minutes to talk with him. I like what he had to say. He seems to be very qualified and a nice man.

Change is always difficult, especially in DC. If the voters turn out Broughton will be our next sheriff.

My neighbor is a Deputy and she tells me some of the problems with DCSO. I think a lot of staff will welcome a new sheriff.

No doubt it will be close but I think that Miller can be re-elected this time. The demographics are changing so rapidly in DC that I wouldn't be surprised if Miller will be the last caucasian sheriff we have in DC.

Don't forget it was white people who caused this. The county was fine until a FEW greedy bastards decided to do a back room deal with Fulton and Dekalb. Miller will soon be painted as a "relic" of the old, white Douglas county and as white people all over America are made to look like hateful demons, Douglas county will change hands and Claytonize.

Daily Horoscope for May 23

Virgo

You have a very high opinion of a certain person today, believing that they can do no wrong. But how realistic are you being? It looks as though you're viewing the world through rose-colored glasses, which is fine if it's only a temporary state but quite another matter if you're deliberately ignoring problems and pretending that they don't exist.
