FINALLY sold our house and am very very glad to be moving out of this urban stinking ghetto called Douglasville - So sad because we have lived here for 30 years and to see what it has become. So sad because we had to GIVE OUR HOUSE AWAY and take a BIG LOSS in order to get out. You talk to realtors in other counties and when they hear you are from Douglasville the go "oh"

That breaks my heart and I am in the same boat. I desperately want to sell and get out of what my students call "the ghetto" of Arbor Station, but I hate to loose all the equity I HAD built up in my house. How long did it take you to sell? How do I start over with no profit on this old house?

I know how you feel. I sold my place in Douglas County back in the late 90's. I grew up there. Once the mall was confirmed the sign went in the yard the next day. I knew that a mall would bring more traffic, more crime, more taxes, and more government corruption. That's how progress works. I lived back in the highway 5 dogwood river area. I loved that area. But it was not to be. I got a nice place on the backside of Paulding County its not old growth forest like alot of the Dog river area but its nice enough. Where ever you move to if the county proposes a mall fight it. It probably want do any good but you got to try. A mall just brings a long slow death.

I am moving as well. Luckily for me I am only renting. You couldn't give me this house right now. I should sleep well in my home each night, but I don't. Not anymore. Within the past year, I can not tell you how many things I have seen around here in Lithia Springs. 3 high speed police chases, shoot out across the highway, and 3 times(2 times the past week) I feel as if every deputy in the county was on my property looking for some thug who's running from them for either robbing a place or attempting to rob a place. I think in the thugs minds, they feel as if they can come to the burbs and get away with their crimes. Also the city of Atlanta is running the ghetto trash out into the burbs, as they have town down many of the huge housing projects. When the city of Atlanta does this, those people are either put in another housing project or given section 8 vouchers. So where do they go? A lot did come to Douglas co. Others went to Cobb, Dekalb and Clayton. Where would a reasonably safe area be to move to? Temple maybe? Yorkville up close to Dallas, maybe? Give me some ideas here. I think by November I will be out of here. Also if you think it's bad now, just wait and see what happens if a public transportation system is put in the county. It is my understanding that they are building or have built a huge transportation center who's future useage is planned for public transit. Now why would they need a transportation center that big if they do not one day plan to have a county wide bus system like Cobb co. has CCT?

Bremen,Tallapoosa,Haralson, hou ses are also cheaper right now,the thugs have nothing in common with the rednecks. So that is a bonus.Good Schools also.

Paulding County will probably be ok for another 15 years but i would move father out. Polk County is good. I would avoid Bartow County. I worked there a couple of years and it has to be the white trash capital of the world. I'm not talking good ole country types. I'm talking plain ole white trash. I would love to move up to North Carolina in the mountains but there are just not any jobs up there.

I talk about that all of the time, but like you said there are no jobs. Paulding still seems to have some areas in the NW part of the county that are not overgrown yet, but I doubt it will stay that way for long due to all of the newer homes up that way. Rockmart has grown up a lot, and even Cedartown Cave Springs is a quiet little area in Polk Co. Yeah I do not care much for Cartersville either. Traffic there is as bad as Douglasville. Someone that my husband works with suggested Ball Ground, up in northern Cherokee Co. Another one mentioned Adairsville. It looks as if you'd have to move an hr. outside of Atlanta to find any peace and quiet.

My folks moved just across the state line to Alabama a few years ago. It is beautiful. Only a 45 minute drive to Douglasville. Their neighbors (formally of Dville as well) have a daughter in the school system and she loves it. The best part, my Dad's says the taxes are much, much lower. They also have a great shopping center only 10 minutes away in Oxford.

There are a lot of people who live just over the AL line that commute to Atlanta for work everyday. Yep, they move out there for cheaper property taxes, homes and better schools. I know someone who did that as well. They moved to Heflin. I just want to make sure we are not too,too far away from the I-75/285 area.

The median income in Harrallson and carroll county is about $30,000 and its in the $50,00,s in Douglas county. Try selling a house out there, nothings moving at all. I've met three familys this year who are moving back to Douglasville, can't make a living out there. If you like the country, those counties may be the right fit for you but if you have a college education and want to get ahead, jobs are far and few between out there, just depends what your looking for.

The reason they are close to last in education is because of the large number of blacks, just like Georgia and Mississippi! Where there are large concentrations of blacks there is always poverty, poor education and high crime! The average white person in the U.S. has an IQ of 100 and the average black person in the U.S. has an IQ of 85 (70 in Africa)! Go ahead, look it up! JUST SAYIN!!!

And to further add to this, just look up the Georgia AYP report for schools in Douglas County. When you dig further into the statistics, whites MEET the standard and blacks DO NOTE MEET. But, don't take my word for it, look it up. Here is the site. http://www.doe.k12.ga.us/ayp2010.aspx Chapel Hill High - DID NOT MEET -> 258 Black DID NOT MEET -> 138 White MET Douglas County High - DID NOT MEET -> 345 Black DID NOT MEET -> 136 White MET Alexander High - DID NOT MEET -> 114 Black DID NOT MEET -> 335 White MET. These are facts and not fabricated numbers that I came up with.
