You can try Chaney's Heating and Air. They have a good reputation. With propane you need to be careful so there are no leaks. You may need a new filament/lighter, but I'm pretty sure they thought of that. I would call them back and have them fix it right siting the money you have already spent. Did you get a quote and an identification of the problem? If so, they should fix it without a problem. Most companies stand by their work. Get an itemized list of what the $540 was spent on as well. This way you know what has been done.
Auto ignition unit and regulator already replaced. We did have an issue with smelling gas, but that seems to have been solved. They have been back 5 times (going on 6) with no additional bill.

It may just be better to fix the problem rather than replace the entire unit unless you do not have central AC now, if not, I would update to save money in the long run. You would loose the propane unless you have another propane appliance, then you can roll the line to that appliance, water heater, range, gas logs...it would do to use gas logs if you don't have them now. More environmentally friendly and cheaper to run than on wood.
It's the only propane applicance.

You have a very special problem on your hands. It may be one for the textbooks. A whole new learning experience for them all.

Some people are funny about gas appliances and choose not to have them because of the potential issues. They are great during power outages though. I have an all electric house, so no power, no water, heat, air, cooking, etc...but the power doesn't go out that much anymore. I haven't had a problem with it anyway.

I pray you get it fixed. At least the weather won't be that bad next week.

The company I use is D & D Heating and Cooling. They have always done a real good job and they are very reasonably priced.

Chauncey's has the best service. I have several rental properties and they are the only ones that will do what they say they will do, in my experience. In the past when calling for service I have found some so called "HVAC companies" to be fly by night operators who work out of their home, have an answering service, probably have no work comp or liability insurance, and never return your call, or either call you 2 days later. No professionalism, or business management experience. I have also had some to send out trashy, foul talking people who damage more than they fix. Be careful when calling some one who claims to be something they are not. If their worker is injured in your home and the so called "company has no work comp insurance, you are responsible for paying for injuries! Sometimes the cheapest price is not the best.

I don't know what company has given you so much trouble...may not be the company....could be unusual problem. I've used Chauncey and O'Steen and prefer O'Steen because of their honesty and their price.

In case anyone is following this thread, we have a new potential diagnosis...moisture in the propane tank is freezing in the regulator. Seems they can add methane to tank to prevent the problem. Should know in few hours. To be ocntinued.....

Not so fast, it seems. Now we've got a diagnosis of malfunctioning control panel. At least it's supposed to be warm the next week or so.
