Anyone know what the deal is with all the furniture and stuff outside the S&A by the dumpster? Like some of it is really nice furniture, and it never makes it into the store??

Might look nice from afar, but if it smells horrific and can't be cleaned...best to not even bring it inside...maybe pet stains, that is my guess.

It makes it into the store, just never past the back. The women that work there get first pickings of everything. They keep themselves and their families stocked. It is one of the most crooked businesses I have ever seen. I go in there and so nothing new. It is always the same stuff even though I see tons of drop-offs every weekend. The should be ashamed.

Broken items including furniture gets thrown out if it can't be fixed and/or cleaned.

Who manages the salvation army store? Is that the norm for the staff to go through items that are donated and take what they want? If so, I will be taking my items elsewhere. That seems very unethical.

I hardly ever find anything in this Store. I can go to other towns and always find nice items that can be used. Have also donated nice things to this location, and would check and they never made it to display on the floor. Also know someone who worked there, and was told that employees get what they want first. I personally think every donation should be offered to the public first,(maybe a week) then the employee could purchase. I certainly don't think it is fair or honest for them to have first pick of everything.

I shop in there often and was told by a worker they take a lot of stuff to their warehouse due to lack of floor space.
They really need to go through their stuff and bring it out seasonally.
When I shopped there in November an employee told me they had a lot of Christmas decorations they were going to put out but I never did see any.
When they have their colored tag sale, like half off green tags, you can never find any clothes that have the half off color.

At Goodwill items have to go out on the floor and employees can not buy it unless they are on break or off the clock.

I agree. I will not be carrying my gently used things there again. I have often wondered if employess get first grabs. And if true, that's wrong. That's defeating the whole purpose. I'll be sure to take very old things, employess will not want.

Does anyone know who is "in charge" of this Douglas store? Does local person "own" it? Heard once that the Worrell man was involved with it.

Mr. Worrell was involved in the office part like setting up bell ringers for their red kettles. Salvation Army leases that property from First Baptist for a nominal fee for 99 yrs. that might why he's involved some.

That's not a policy if you ask me. They can then place any certain items out 10 minutes before they go on break. That's wrong, plain wrong. I have donated all kinds of items, in really good condition. Sorry to say, I'm done with SA.

Prett Morris, I think is how you spell her name, is over it and yes I've heard the same about employee's picking and choosing before it goes to the floor.

What's worse is that they hold stuff in the back for a few of the ladies with antique and knick knack stores downtown so they can buy it. Granted they do pay for theirstuff bout turn it around and mark it up to sell themselves. i just don't think it's fair for any items to be saved for special people.

Holding items for certain people is oh so wrong to me also. This store if suppose to be for all the people who like to shop thrifty. In this last couple years, I for one have had to stick to a tight budget. Special people (whoever they are) should not be able to go pick up there "stash" and all the leftovers be for everyone else.
If I knew who resells these things locally, I for sure would stay out of their store.I am finished with SA also.

Mrs. Morris does run both aspects as far as the store and the charitable part. They do help a lot of people but herself and employees do have dibs on the "good" stuff.

I've been to some of the other Salvation Armies and Goodwills in other areas, and they have REALLY nice stuff in them. I've noticed when I go to ours in Douglas, it always has the same things. I understand if furniture is broken or stained, but I've stopped and looked at really nice stuff before. It's ridiculous.
