Anybody remember: The Cochise County Sheriff's "sustainable charges" and "continuing inquiry" into Lt. Ed Holly of BPD? The local weekly paper (family-connected to BPD) timidly tapped this story into the net -- where it has remained. The daily paper couldn't care less. Or the BUSD exile and termination of its finance officer -- without due process or fair hearing? Despite Lee Spinks' best crusading, the weekly and the daily paper haven't TOUCHED this story -- and Matchett & Covington have it tamped down tight. Anybody remember? Guess not.

Exhaustion? Apathy? Ignorance? Paranoia? What explains the fact that nobody gives a damn, that nobody apparently cares about two stories which say a great deal about Bisbee?

Apathy

If you care so much, why don't you rile the Tucson news stations or papers to cover the story? Maybe that will put a little fire to it.

You don't believe local media have a role in covering local stories? You don't care? Bisbee as a whole doesn't seem to care, and yet here are two stories which (so far) put this town in a bad light.
Are we really that smug? or that ignorant? or that apathetic?

They Dont Care

I have observed a fair amount of Bisbee people over the many years I have lived here. I still don't understand why they do not join forces and speak out against the many injustices that keep occurring to them stemming from the City Hall blokes. They will mutter and complain but the majority are afraid to speak out. For example: the sewer and garbage bills keep escalating and I never see people getting together to question City Hall about putting a cap on the increases. Why are Bisbee people so apathetic and passive when it comes to those making the decisions for them? They certainly walk around mumbling about their displeasure over the City Manager, the Mayor, the Police Department, etc. They will go out of their way to put on a benefit when someone from the Gulch is arrested for slashing tires. Their priorities are certainly screwed up.

And that was the original point: We DON'T know the real stories! What amazes me is that no one seems to give a damn about two situations that both have the potential to stink like dead fish, and that BOTH have the potential to cost Bisbee a bundle! If, for instance, Lee Spinks was fundamentally correct in his reports, Ms. Taylor has cause for one hellacious lawsuit, and all the Matchetts in town ain't gonna beat that one! On the Ed Holly story: Wouldn't it be nice to KNOW why the #2 man in BPD is under continuing investigation, following a Sheriff's Office finding of "sustainable charges" of oppresssion under color of law? Wouldn't it be nice to know if the man is merely a jerk (as indicated by what's been admitted so far), or if there's more being swept under the carpet?

Bisbee Lynch Mob wrote: <quoted text> Wouldn't it be nice if your lynch mob put their torches and pitchforks away for a while, and let the investigation run it's course? The citizens/taxpayers have a right to know how their City/County government is being run. There has been little or no watchdogs, internal controls for years. If Ed Holly actually has done anything illegal (and the investigation is still ongoing, supposedly), does anyone think that he is the only one in that Police Department? The City Manager has turned into a puppet just like the ex Mayor. The only way to bust all of this--and I believe it is huge, is to have undercover people on the inside. There is not lynch mob, people deserve answers. I hope Ed Holly, if he has any knowledge of anything, sings a sweet song. As for the newspapers--would it suprise anyone that the City controls what they print?

Dirty Little Secrets

My opinion is that Cochise County in general is corrupt as any County in the United States. The fact that the Sheriff's Office is running the investigation into a member of the BPD is a joke in and of itself. It is a "Good Old Boy" System of the highest level. And, Bisbee is right in the thick of it. Bisbee is a town with no shame yet they want to hush up all of their dirty little secrets.

The folks in town certainly complain about the Mayor. But, why should they expect his promises to be anything but "campaign promises"? That is what they all do when running for an elected office. The only person I have seen who tries to make good on his promises is Ken Budge.

I heard that Holly took advantage of the situation and had surgery on his knees. Since he had to be off work anyway, why not work the system for all its got and take a medical leave during this investigation. This way he is still earning a paycheck. Oh, wrong wording, not earning but getting a paycheck.

Don't you love it when the local "mechanic" smokes all over your car and around gasoline and oil? Wouldn't you think that someone representing the City would check their appearance? Take Boyd and his wife for example--always taking their morning stroll. She in her huge straw hat and he with his black Fedora. They are a scene right out of the Stepford Wives.

I find it interesting he wouldn't talk to investigators without his lawyer present. That is a good policy, but, a long time I was investigated by Lt. Holly, he read me my rights and I was thinking of getting a lawyer before talking to him, at least until I found out what it was about. The response I got from him was, "Why do you need a lawyer if you didn't do anything wrong?". I love to pose the same question to him now. I wish I had gotten a lawyer, would of saved a lot of money and a date in court for a simple misunderstanding of which I was proven innocent (no thanks to Mr Holly). I had hoped he had changed, but I see he has not.

Sounds like your dander is up, "Move on". Thanks for sharing your story "interested". If they want to get you, the Police will come after you based on groundless accusations. When they should really crack down on the law violators, they look the other way. It all depends, in this small town, who you are friends with. It is called "selective enforcement". Ask Jeff Harris what he and many others have had to endure.

I don't think Mr. Holly should take the fall for anybody. In my opinion, he is being used.
