I don't know him, but since the state laws are established by lawmakers and since the majority of lawmakers are from Chicago, I would highly doubt any of those representatives are going "oh yeah, that Bigler guy....we should let him slide." Don't insinuate that the rest of the state is willing to bend/break laws based on the "good ole boy" system because that's how you think Anna works. This is an election that is much bigger than City Council or City Administrator. There were approximately 15000 voters in the last election for senate i this district, and there are approximately 12.8 million residents in Illinois. I hope you don't honestly believe that the majority of Illinois would bend for literally 0.0012% of its' population. If you do, you're as dumb as the first guy.

To be a General AssemblyState Representative, you have to be 21 years of age AND a legal resident of the district you intend to representfor 2 years. It also requires 5% of the voting population of that district to petition youfor the position. Do us all a favor and don't talk anymore. You just make Southern Illlinois look bad. First, that was said with tongue in cheek. I can assure you I am not stupid, nor dumb. Just for your info, while I don't rhyme like you do, I do believe in action. If no one protests the petition signatures or actual petition signed by the candidate, he gets to run. State board of elections do not enforce their own rules, the public does. You might try getting your facts straight too!

Voter wrote: <quoted text>Neither does DJHellboy. Haha, the name is DJ HOLYHELLBOY and I am very aware of the Chicago machine. At this point, I'm not sure you are. You've said nothing indicating that you are even aware that there is a larger piece to the Illinois political struggle than you blaming the "good ole boy" system for everything. You think that because his father was a judge, he will automatically get the win? You couldn't be further from the truth. It's uninformed voters like you that continually contribute to the downfall of such a great area. You continually find excuse after excuse as to why the change you want to see isn't coming, but fail to do anything to stimulate that change that you want to see. But alas, you'll continue bitching on a public internet forum that houses some of the most idiotic discussions that I've ever seen and think that you've made a difference and that what you've said here is going to change things.

You might try getting your facts straight too! Haha, oh boy, you're taking shots at my rhyming? That, too, is done out of jest and is incredibly enjoyable and actually quite rewarding, especially considering that I try and head off the constant slander that seems to always be present here. As far as getting my facts straight, I have sir. If you check the State Board of Elections website (which was created in 1973 by the Illinois General Assembly), you'll find that their primary goal is to "serve as the central authority for all Illinois election law, information and procedures in Illinois." Also, feel free to note that they indicate that any fraud or irregular voting claims (this petition item that you speak up would fall into the category of fraud), are to be thoroughly investigated by the State Board of Elections (which is to say, NOT the people as you erroneously stated above; unless of course, by 'the people', you meant that the representatives of the government that we elected to these positions, but I doubt it.), and any activity found to be in violation of the laws set forth will be turned over to the proper law enforcement agency (again, not 'the people'). So please, if you have something better, then by all means, "come at me bro" as the Jersey Shore kids say. If not, go back to creating your crack-pot conspiracies one at a time.

On a sidenote, I am actually very very glad there has been some lively discussion on this website regarding a subject matter different from the usual "oh she's a hooker", "oh he's pregnant", "oh, it's got a tail" crap that usually pops up on here. It's nice to know there are other intelligent people capable of putting together coherent thoughts and backing those thoughts up. Best regards, even though I think you're wrong.

Does anyone know if IDOT receives federal funding or grants? It would be wonderful to put this nonsense to rest early. IDOT absoulutley receives alot of money from Federal grants.

Someone who knows, how do you find out if those grants or federal money directly ties into his salary/paycheck? Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't it have to be the individuals salary/paycheck that is affected that makes it a violation of the Hatch Act?

First time I have read topix threads and thought to myself there are people with sense who get on here.
Back to topic, Leuchtefeld should be given respect for his service to the state but it is always good to have a choice and will be paying close attention to this race because I am hopeful we can turn things around here in Southern Illinois.

I can remember a few years ago Steve Hartline was not allowed to run for county board because of the Hatch Act and he worked at Choate. With Bigler this is the first time I can recall a current state employee running for state office. It seems as if he would need to resign from IDOT if he won, if not during the election. Lets be honest though, does anyone really think he will beat Dave Luctefeld? Dems are going to get their butts handed to them statewide in 2012 thanks to Quinn. Much less by some kid with no real political, work or life experince running against a well respected four or five term incumbent...

Just like a farmer's son was brought up to know farming, and a businessman's son was brought up to know business, Bigler was brought up to know politics and live off the taxpayer to serve the people. Give him a chance and let him do what he knows best. Its his destiny. It can't be any worse than what we got in there now.

Its not like the family has a long history of politics. Dad was a judge. A judge basically runs in an actual election one time then runs to be retained thereafter. In the retention elections no campaigning is done...brother was a one term states attorney who left office with his tail between his legs...

How can someone be destined to live off the taxpayers? Serve the people? His is the most self serving family I know. From past experience with Bigler politics, it can get worse. Once bit, twice shy.
