If you search "Providence,Ky." in almost any search engine..this site is in the top ten..So if by chance someone plans to move here, pass through, build, or open a bussiness here they do a simple search a five year old could do and reads about:Tim Rigdon, Carwash Crack Heads, Clint Prow, Crooked Cops, Crooked City,...
Everyone is soo quick to jump in and complain, but were's the posts for mabey starting a town yard sale, or orginize a park clean up ??? If anyone is interested in getting involved in improving your city, town pride, ect. let me know so we can start a positive forum.

Providence is a little Peytons Place collection of assorted freaks and will probably continue to be this way for quite some time to come.

For some reason, Clay, Sebree, Slaughters and Dixon has always wanted to have this air that they are so much cleaner, better and in much better shape than Providence. When in reality, they are holes in the earth with all the dirt, drugs and problems that Providence has. I have never understood this attitude. Another strike that Providence has against it is all the low income housing.

I've never got the impression that the surrounding towns felt like they were above Providence. But, I hung around a good group from Webster...fortunately none of them had an inferiority complex. As for the low-income housing, I think it's great. However, they need to hire TOUGH, STRONG, BRAVE Security Officers to keep the drugs out. I feel bad for the young kids there who might grow up to be like the bad influences who are "doing their thing" at the apartments.

Low income housing is a necessary thing, but whether people want to acknowledge it or not, it definately affects a community when there is too many low income complexes within one little town. And if you've never had the impression that the surrounding little towns felt like they were above Providence, I'm not sure if you've been out too much! All the towns in Webster county are just little country places with not a whole lot to brag about, however Providence does have city services no one else has and alot more conveniences. People from the surrounding towns, especially Clay and Slaughters have always had the thinking that they are just a little bit better. For what reason, I don't know.

People in Sebree actually think they are better than people in Providence???

NOW THATS THE BIGGEST WEBSTER COUNTY JOKE EVER MADE UP...ROFLMFAO!!!

Maybe we can all put chicken uniforms on and go to the Sebree chicken festival and do "The Chicken Dance".

These kids from Sebree are practicing their chicken festival dance...

I have been out a lot. But, what I've found is that there are snobs and hypocrites in all of the towns in Webster. It's kinda funny when people think they're better than others, huh?!! Noses up in the air...ha ha ha. They honestly crack me up, I can't help but roll my eyes when I see one. I suppose intheir eyes we're only equal on Sundays.

What about all the old delapidated buildings in providence? One of the old buildings has a piece of steel plating holding it together so it dont fall apart and come crashing down onto the sidewalk and into the street. I always cross the street and walk in front of the post office so i wont get hurt by any possible falling bricks.

Okies, do you live in Slaughters? I mean, it looks like a broken down ghost town! Give me a break! It's nothing to brag about, Providence isn't in any worse condition than Slaughters OR Clay. And to clear something up, the piece of steel is not holding the building up to keep it from falling into the streets, the demolition crew knocked a hole into the wall and had to fix it. But if walking on the other side of the street in front of the post office makes you feel better, keep it up!

That's smart. If it goes broke it will only hurt you and the other people who live here.

I actually hope Providence turns out to be a great town. There are so many young people there. Providence, a well as the surrounding towns, need opportunities for the younger ones. Getting control over the drug situation would help, as well as mandatory parenting classes for ANY parent caught with drugs.

What would be great is if, assuming small towns will have control over how their stimilus plans are made, they could help "spruce up" streets and homes of those who live in poverty. Ofcourse that won't happen, because in all fairness, the taxpayer would probably be overlooked. Oh, well, just a thought.

I think it will be a cold day in you know where, before the average Joe taxpayer would benefit the least little bit. It would definately be nice if small towns could get the money that they need to fix their buildings and help out their citizens. I just don't think that it will ever happen.

Just to set the record straight.. Dr. Coles building was damaged by Mr Bennett during demolition.. He did not cut the steel beam that runs over top of the windows and they were attached .. When he tore the one down it twisted the face of the building. He pushed the steel back in place (kinda) and the plate was a poor patch job..there's no hole behind it just damage from the beam being pulled out.. I was there & saw this first hand.

It's comments like yours and most likely people like you that are the cause of the "small town" problems

It's more likely politics that's the cause.

People are unbelievably ignorant and you don't realize just how ignorant until you get on these forums and read what people post. Why would you EVER wish that the town in which you live would go broke?

It's amazing to me how ignorant people actually are. If you start regaining your faith in humanity, just get on a forum like this and it will remind you why the good Lord saw fit to wipe the population out with the flood and start over!
