You probably also think that George W. Bush was a great president!
Well, he wasn't that bad at playing a president on TV as long as he stuck to the script.

A lot of people here like to bust on Walmart. However, Walmart provides affordable goods for people who may not have enough money to purchase goods at higher end retailers or food stores. I don't personally shop there, but I am glad that middle-class families who may have children havea place where they can buy household items at an affordable rate. Furthermore, Walmart is one of few companies that are doing well during a recession. That means that walmart can provide jobs for people when others aren't hiring. Yes, I know it is only minimum wage, but for a family that needs a job (any job) to provide food for there family, Walmart is providing that.

I really hope you know that a single wage-earner with a family of four cannot feed, cloth, shelter, and otherwise fend for their family if they work at Wal-Mart and are paid minimum wage, even if they are full-time, which working at Wal-Mart, they assurredly are not. even with TWO part-time Wal-mart wage earners in the family, they are still pretty dirt poor. Try it sometime. See for yourself.

True, but they can still afford more shopping at walmart than Giant, Target or Weis. If I was dirt poor, I would rather pay (x - 1) than (x)

Even if the folks who bring you (x-1) are the same folks who are helping to keep you poor while THEY get richer?

How are they keeping anyone poor? Many people who work at walmart do it as a part time job; are retired; or are not educated or skilled enough to work anywhere else. FYI Giant Food store, Weis, Target, Best Buy, fastfood places, Bonton, JC Penny, GAP, Starbucks, etc etc all pay their employee nearly, if not, the same as Walmart pays its employees.

Um, duh, they are helping keep people poor because the products they sell are NOT being made by American workers, and a lot of the food items are NOT coming from American farms. They dictate manufacturing stipulations for their own marketing and stocking needs to the point where many American-owned companies have no choice but to have those items produced in countries where the WAGES and working conditions are sub-standard to American ones, and therefore, the unit cost to the buyer is low enough for WalMart to make a profit on the unit and sell it at a "falsely" low price point.
Are things more expensive in northern Europe? Yes. But WAGES and working conditions and BENEFITS are also better than America and most of the rest of the world.

But aren't ALL America owned retail stores guilty of the same thing? Why only blame Walmart and no other retailer?

Walmart took the practise to new heights and many other retailers followed suit to stay in the ballgame. Americans REALLY need to curb spendin, expecially as most of the stuff they are buying is cheap JUNK and it won't last more than ayear. We are beyond the point of being able to live in a "disposable" economic mindset; besides, it is vulgar beyond belief, and should never have been developed in the first place.

Well the best way to change it so more retailer buy and sell American made products is to increase tariffs on imports. Yes, this will also make it more expense to buy and sell goods to and from other countries but it will give more incentive for manufacturers to build plants within our borders. Thus, more jobs will be created and more American made goods will sell. We need to do away with NAFTA and other treaties.

What is really amusing is that you don't have enough sense to build a tract house of moderate value outside of the HOT ZONE from TMI. Oh, BTW, that $300K house of yours is probably really worth about $180K if you're lucky, and if you are really lucky, you might pay it off before it falls down. Have you had to replace your nice vinyl windows as of yet? Wait a bit - you will.
What the he$$ are you talking about. I've lived in Etters for over 11 years and have a nice house and there are many nice houses around me. Up the road there are 1/2 million dollar homes. I havent had to replace my new vinyl windows that were put in 2001. Your first comment was that there was nothing but trailer trash in Etters......IDIOT!

Is your house a double wide or a triple wide, Does it still have wheels attached, does it have a skirt?

I do not recall using the term "trailer trash" myself. The point I was making is that in the earliest years of post-WW II development as the Susquehanna Expressway was transformed into I-83, that general area was, and remains, the cultural contact point between suburban York and Dauphin Co./ West Shore Harrisburg influence. With its proximity to the Turnpike, New Cumberland, and the Naval Supply Depot, it would have been a natural place for targeted development: however, at the time, there was no significant concentration of people with money to support said commercial development, and the indigenous population was very much lower income or moderate income.
While there has recently been some incursion of money (hence your triple-wide, there, Bucco) there is still no significant base to inspire futher upscale development until very, very recently.
Oh, and as someone pointed out earlier, if you, in your grand home, think you are living in Etters, then YOU are the idiot, because Etters IS, in fact, only a Post Office address, not a physical site. You've lived there eleven years, and you still don't know THAT?

Ouch, your home was built in 2001? Is it a "Ryan" home? 4 bed, 2.5 bath on a quarter acre plot; immature vegetation (because it formerly a corn field); cheap carpet, faux hardwood, linoleum tile, and fiberglass bathroom?

Semi-literate is right, those homes will not stand the test of time. Cheap inferior wood is used in the framing, corners are cut when laying the foundation; windows and siding poorly installed; and the insulation is minimal.

I was always taught growing up to never buy a home built after 1940, unless you either build the house yourself or know about the builder.
