I would like to direct local fishermen to Jackson Topix. I have started a thread where we can share information on local fishing of all types in southeast Missouri. Crappie, bass, catfishing, bluegill/redear. Let us know how you're doing and how your doing it. Look forward to hearing your comments.

My daughter and I went fishing together in Chaffee last week and caught 3 whole fish. Now some might not think this is any great accomplishment, but for us it was a big deal. A good friend took me to this beautiful place called Twappity in Chaffee this year and introduced me to fishing. Now my daughter and I just love going there to walk the trail, have a picnic or enjoy the lake for memories sake. However, I realize this post is about FISHING. The two of us know absolutely nothing about HOW to fish. I just buy the little white thingys my good friend showed me or worms and we gag and sputter while we put them on the hook, stick the line in the water and hope for something. YAY~! THREE this week. Luckily he was patient and took time to show me how to take them off the hook way back when or we would have been in trouble. LOL. Good luck to the fishermen~!!!!

No crappie at the slough. Fishing is much better the farther north you go. Private ponds and secret fishing spots are the only places near Dexter to catch anything worth your time.

Yes, I am from Dexter. I don't know a lot about fishing. Like I said, my daughter and I went for the first time this year and she has really taken to it. Problem is, I don't really know what kind of hooks or bait to use for where we are fishing and I couldn't even begin to tell you what we are fishing for. LOL. We just want to catch fish. So like, are there certain places to go that would be best for amateurs like us? We have been to Twappity and have a little luck there and then the Dexter pond.....mostly just for casting practice. We went to a little place in Benton once but it seems really mucky. We didnt even get many nibbles there. Where else should we try? Are you serious about helping us? Online, of course. Got an email? It would probably be best for us to have conversation that way. I can explain later.

I only started fishing again about 2 months ago after a good 10 years of not. Tried Lake Wappapello once and caught nothing, but seeing as I lack a boat and there is so little shore to fish from I'm not surprised, so I've just been going to the Dexter pond. I've caught 7 or 8 cats, a ton of to small blue gill and crappie, and a few bass that were below the limit. I hooked that big bastard carp once but he went under the dock and pulled my hook totally straight before he got away. Most were caught with nightcrawlers both on a bobber and on the bottom, large slugs seem to do well too. The cats only really seem to bite just at sun up and near sunset, sucks the pond is closed from dusk till dawn.

I am a Crappie Fisherman, and if you don't know Wappapello Lake very well, you won't catch much. I do fish a lot on Reelfoot Lake in Tennessee and at a private spot close to Portageville. Both of those places have some of the largest Crappie I have ever caught. I just recently moved back to Dexter and now have to learn Wappapello all over again.

Daily Horoscope for January 2

Capricorn

Self deception will be the main issue today. You may be judging your situation wrongly: don't hold back, say what you think diplomatically and without being hurtful. This should result in a positive mental outlook for you. Competitive sports activity will ease any stress or tension.
