My father used to put down the gates in Maywood and told a story of a grocery store truck struck by a train...
Take this seriously folks: You can't argue with a train no matter how late you are or you will end up being late for your own funeral
If the gates are down don't cross or you can die and kill others

When you cannot wait for the train to pass, and go through the gates, be prepared to meet your maker. To the conductor and his family, and the injured bystander, I hope you make it through this. God speed.

Seems like a lot of people are engaged in suicide by train lately. As noted, hurts a passerby.

Will people never learn? Why would anyone go around a speeding train? My condolences to the family and friends left behind.

People will just not learn. If the gates are down and a train is coming you have to wait If not the results of challenging a train can be deadly as in this case. Stupid drivers in a hurry.

You have got to wonder if the majority of these so-called train vs. car "accidents" aren't actually deliberate. Thankfully the innocent bystander is going to be okay. As for the conductor ... I can only imagine.

The fact of the matter is that what the guy did was unacceptible, it never should be done...BUT...why assume that it was simple impatience that led him around the down gates? Could it be possible that he had a family emergency to get to? Maybe he had a child at NIU? Maybe some other tragedy? If we knew that he went around the gates because he was just an impatient moron, fine, then let's crucify him, but let's learn a little more about the situation before we strangers rip apart another total stranger. One day, each one of us may be put in a similar situation that I described above. I honestly don't know how I might act if I absolutely HAD to be somewhere and I was stuck in some kind of traffic.
