7th suspected heroin death worries officials

Mother in Derry Twp. knows that this is no safe to be. It has been a freak show here since 2001 or so. We are not hicks or dumb. Many families like mine have lived here for years. I think many things have contributed to the problem here. I think oxycontin was a big one. Once that started it it all came full circle. Now we have the youth of Derry and rural Westmd. Co. going into the city and bringing heroin out here. The community does not have the tax base or resources to deal with the epidemic level of addiction here. Just now they are expanding an old state hospital Torrance to try to help with the problem. I have found needles in my home and watched the lives of many young adults be ravaged and tormented by heroin. I have seen their famileis in horror watch their community and youth destroyed by drug addiction. I think the ratio is something like 1 in 3 families either knows and addict or is related to one. Many have died. Little has been done. Much has to be accomplished. Support groups seem to be at churches. Right now it seems that many are running from god..I'm certain the Devil wants Derry bad. I am also certain that we will come together as a community and fight this eventually. I know that many of us are fighting to save those we love. The system court, criminal and other are not prepared here for this. State Police don't want involved in heroin issues here. Your lucky if you can find a bed at a rehab center here. I have thought of starting a group here. I know many mothers just like me. We have talked about alot of ways to combat drug use sales and addiction here. What seems to be lacking is the ability to unite. Anger is everywhere here....I have vowed to get things going A.S.A.P. but have had issues more important right now. I am fighting a hugh battle for my child right now. Anyone else from Derry Twp out there join in. There will be a great battle here in the farm land. Derry Twp. will get the help it needs from everyone when we unite. I have been fighting for 7 years. I can tell you alot. I have seen it all out here.

for real? a bad batch? how about that should make us all realize that we need to watch our children a little more closely and our families. If we know they are using any type of drug we could help stop it. I am sure some people feel "bad" for users by sending them to jail, but lets face it, it keeps loved ones from being killed from an "addiction". I had a roomie in college and she went to a meth clinic every day then she would come home and smoke pot and fall asleep with lit, burning cigarettes in her hand. I ended up telling my resident adviser and eventually the ex roomie ended up in jail because the RA just bluntly called the cops. If it wasn't for that, this girl would have killed herself or so many other people in our building. She is clean today. She is pissed at the world but at least she has a future now.

I guess I have a very different way of analyzing a situation. I work with drug addicts and have been doing so for many years. Me, being a counselor, am taught to not judge and to help. Yes, it is a choice. But sometimes choices end up controlling every part of you. Continued use says that the individual as no more control and unable to make choices. The centers in the brain that control pleasure take over and tell the body that the drugs are needed and, therefore, irrational thinking takes place. I could go on and on...

So, I don't judge, I just help.

I agree. I have watched it take over. It may have been a choice to use drugs. I can't imagine it being a choice to become addicted. I'm glad you choose not judge and to help. It is always about choices.

Matt, i totally agree with you. I have 2 sisters and 2 brothers who along with their spouses are addicted to drugs and alcohol. I chose not to do either one. "they say i'm adopted". These drugs are taking over peoples lives. And I think if we all pull together as a community or a nation, maybe we can stop some of it...But it has to start at the very top. Ex: politics etc.

your so right matt. poobear....your right to. espcially about the enormity of the problem. we as americans ride the back of the bus on the big issues. global economy, corporate america, even gas prices. i have had some ideas that would make a difference. are you interested in joining in? is anyone else out there willing to join together to fight for the lives of western pa's youth?

I didn't read all the posts, but how bout we take care of some business here and just make some good "bad batch" to hand out for a bargain price?? All the users will stand in line to buy it and we can just roll them up in body bags and save some good american oxygen?

And maybe you'll shit your self to death. Or find some other way to vent your frustration or anger or whatever it is that drives someone who lets others give him a case of the shits.

first off, get off your high horse. I was addicted to pain killers for 5 years and i stopped taking them when i sat down and realized i didn't remember my little brother being born. open your F***ing eyes idiot. Second off you didn't hurt anyone by your stupid little rant, we dont feel bad for you, and last... i dont care if your addicted to heroin or cigarettes, you can always drop the bad habbit, just realize what is going wrong in your life, get help, and dont act like a 5 year old about it expecting people to feel bad for you when you made the stupid decision to start in the first place. YOU MAKE YOUR CHOICES IN LIFE AND NO ONE ELSE DOES IT FOR YOU. no one is going to feel bad for an addict. People should start doing more heroin??

I dont care if anyone wants to do drugs.I myself dont touch drugs but im sick of the quote on quote war on drugs.Its all just a big sham.Think if we were to legalize heroin like alcohol if you drive on it your dui.I sometimes wonder how much money and how much crime would go down.Why couldnt we just try it for a month.Why would that be so hard.Phillys been fighting a mean war on drugs and if you want heroin your gettin it guarenteed..So all that money for what.And yes i feel for the poor shmucks that od on it but hate the addicts thievery which would stop if it were legal.
