Went to visit our Daughter’s grave on her Birthday and what we seen was a disgrace. The Sheppard hook was missing and the wind chime was lying on the ground. The eternal light was also found on the ground. Looked around and found that all the graves were missing Sheppard hooks. Thought the cemetery was robbed of the hooks for there value. As we were leaving the cemetery - saw a sign stating that the hooks were taken down by the township trustee. Called several township trustees and found that they had nothing to do with the missing hooks. So were did the Sheppard hooks go? The sign said NO SHEPPARD HOOKS AS OF JAN 1, 2012, but we were at the grave on Jan 22, 2012 and the hooks were there. Anyone know anything about this?

Many of the cemeteries around are doing away with sheppard hooks for many different reasons. My mother is buried in Silvercreek and they have put a rule up also, but have no adheared to it yet. Many still have the hooks up. My thought is, the cemetery should have given more warning time, so the families can remove themselves. Good luck

There was an article written in the Madison Press about this. If you do a search it should come up. They are not allowing shepards hooks due to damage they cause the mowers and/or weed eaters; however, they revised their ruling on artifical flowers, BUT they have to be on the monument. Not a good solution for people whose family members and friends headstones do not all wo for them.
Just sad that this is what we are faced with. A cemerery is a place to honor our loved ones who are passed on and I feel our cemetery has went down hill.
Just my opinion.
