If you want to make any money my advice is to not start hauling R.V,s. They are the cheapest fright I have ever hauled. I towed one to Arkansas last week,a distance of about 750 milesmit payed 711.36 and my fuel alone was463.61 also one night in a motel, my eats and the use of a $40,000 truck and insurance. It seems like everyone in the R.V. business makes money except the driver. To make any money you need about $2.00 per mile and none of the companies pay that. Some even pay less than a dollar.

You are correct, I have been towing RV's for 3 years and if you get less that 1.30 a loaded mile all you are doing is using up your asset (truck). It would seem that the drivers would get smart. I did- I quit hauling!!!

This winter I hauled trailers from Indiana to Ontario and Quebec. After hauling 10 trailers my average net was $120 per trailer for about 20 hours of driving each. After deducting repairs and start up costs it cost me $800 to haul these trailers. I very promptly quit hauling before I went broke.

No wonder it took me 5 months to get my trailer from Indiana, thought the dealer was full of it.

Wow, Chris G you need a real....job like the fat ass Bristol town manager has. All you would have to do is sit around and tell the morons on the council what to do and run-up hospital bills. ($100.000 +)

Did you work for a SW Ontario RV Transport company? Reason I ask is that I had an interview with one a couple weeks ago. They suggested I use a Dodge 5.9l Cummins, because the Ford Powerstrokes are using up $200-$300 more fuel per trip & the GM Duramaxs' were expensive to maintain.

What make of truck did you use?

Hi, The rates are much too low.
Today the brokers offer $1.30 a mile, up 8 cents from 2006. The rates, I agree need to be in the area of $2.00 per mile, regardless of currency, if the Owner/Operator is to to make decent living.

At today's rates a trip to pick up in Indiana and deliver to London,ON pays approx.$425. Expenses are :fuel approx.$185,bridge tolls $10, meals and then depreciation on the vehicle. That leaves less than $200 for a 12 hour day. You make more than that driving someone else's truck with no risk or capital investment. Too bad, I liked being independent with my work schedule.

Do the math, remember they only pay one way and you have to get yourself home, unpaid, after the drop.

The type of diesel truck you use really doesn't matter if the economics are all wrong to begin with but I agree, the Dodge diesel is superior.

Good day...

I would like to thank all of you who are writing in with all this useful information, without the experience you can really get yourself in a mess financially! I'm just looking into starting a rv transort run, but with what I'm reading here it's giving me a lot to re-think about.
In the mean time though I'm very interested in what the dodges are getting for fuel economy? mpg?
It sounds like they are the best so far?

Sorry to intrude, but I found this site while searching for a personal driver. Would like to rent an RV and hire a driver (preferably H & W) for a weekend excursion from Orlando to South Carolina. Any suggestions? Do you guys know how many people hate to fly and/or hate to drive. Problem with exisitng limo/charter companies is client must pay 4x for a long distance overnight trip.

Hello, I have been looking in to rv haulin, and i really cant complain about making $200 for a twelve hour day. it beats working at timmies. all of the homework that i have done tells me that there are way to get more bang for your buck, like chips that will give you 4-5 more mpg. that with the 5.9 cummins is one way to go. so thanks for the info but it still seems like a good idea to me.

Daily Horoscope for December 5

Leo

Your sunny temperament has returned, dear Leo, as the Sun and Venus dance in Sagittarius and the marvellous Moon shines in your sign. Whatever the day has to offer, it should bring you some pleasure and laughter, so arrange something nice if you don't have anything planned. Your power to charm is considerable right now and it will make you a big hit with whoever gets the full force of it. But don't give someone the come-on if you don't mean it.
