Same-Sex Among us:

Full story: www.bangordailynews.com

The debate about the Nov. 3 ballot’s Question 1, the effort to repeal Maine’s newly minted same-sex marriage law, will heat up in the coming weeks. Heat is one thing. Falsehoods are another. Opponents of the law are bringing children into the fray, suggesting their innocence would be sullied if the repeal fails. It’s a ploy that has been used effectively before; any candidate for elected office who supports sex education is said to favor handing out condoms to kindergarten children. This time, the claim by repeal proponents is that schools would be forced to teach “gay sex education.” It is baseless and betrays an ignorance about education.

The opponents of sames sex marriage equality HAVE to use lies to further their cause because there's no rational and civil argument that can be made against it.

I think they like using lies. I suspect they have fun making them up and I believe they think most people are dumb so they aren't worried that they'll be found out. Are Mainers really that dumb??

Apparently not, here they were just raked over the coals by one of the local papers for their lies. While California proves that with enough repetition, the lies can somehow be mistaken for the truth, I have a feeling that the people of Maine have enough experience with the people behind the referendum that they are going to take anything they say with a hefty grain of salt...

This is the EXACT SAME STRATEGY THAT THE YES ON PROP 8 FOLKS USED......and it is STILL TOTAL HORSE CRAP.

Marriage is and has always been about 2 ADULTS.......TYPICALLY ONE MAN/ONE WOMAN.......AND THAT'S IT.........NOTHING ABOUT HETEROSEXUAL MARRIAGE IS TAUGHT IN SCHOOLS......YET ALL OF A SUDDEN SAME-SEX COUPLES GETTING MARRIED WILL BE TAUGHT.

People of Maine......please don't let the THOSE WHO LIVE OUTSIDE YOUR STATE PERPETRATE LIES.

This is what California did. Our No on Prop 8 folks did nothing to counter these false ads and lies.

Vote No on 1.........and tell Fred and his group to get the hell out of your state.

i said it before, and i'll say it again..... Bye, Bye Maine. the united states of america hates its gay u.s. citizens! if gay u.s. citizens want 'change'(you'll like that? i just used barack's presidential campaign slogan), there must be bloodshed in the streets. perhaps you're not old enough to remember the 1960's, when u.s. citizens like barack obama were fire-hosed, attacked with dogs/batons/human fists because they were hated, but gay u.s. citizens today, must remember those days, and in my humble opinion, repeat those days if any 'change' is to occur.

u.s. citizens, buy a gun. protect your family and yourself.

Well, we've seen how Republicans will lie about ANYTHING. Look at the health care "debate."

They don't care if what they say is true or not. They have no integrity.

This reduces their credibility across the board.

Unfortunately the bigots are counting on the ignorance of the general public to spread their lies. You can indeed "fool some of the people all of the time". Let's hope the Mainiacs are smarter than that.

You mean, we're NOT going to send everyone over 50 to the death panels so we can keep the illegal immigrants insured and pay to abort all the babies of unwed Christian mothers?

Is their credibility reduced? I'm shocked that the blatant lies haven't been roundly rejected by conservative media. I'm amazed that Republicans like Olympia Snow aren't distancing themselves as far as they can from Joe Wilson, Sarah Palin, Tom Pawlenty, and the rest of their benighted leadership.

They're successfully appealing to a very large group of people who have never thought for themselves at all and have no intention of starting now. It's a depressingly large part of the population.

Thinking for yourself is very frightening. What if you're wrong? What if you have to weigh alternatives? What if someone holds you accountable? It's so much easier to say, "But that is what I was told".
