The Plano ISD believe that there is no need for crossing guards for middle schools. I believe this needs to be changed immediately or get new members of the Plano School Board.

God Bless Us All wrote: That is a busy street and there should be a crossing guard. But I think the real question is where are the parents. If the Plano ISD believes a 12yr can handle crossing a busy street why shouldn't the parents. I would believe "God Bless Us All" you do not work and have children, if you did you would know how asine your comments are.

School zone speed limits begin before 8:00 a.m., at least in other parts of the Metroplex. Even if the school zone warning lights were not on, if the boy was in the crosswalk, going with the green light, he should have been safe! Sounds to me like the driver wasn't paying attention.
No mention of the boy's condition... and hope and pray he will completely recover.

Hello viewers of NBC 5, I am a friend of the kid who was hit by a car. I see you have been asking how the kid (David) is doing. He is acually stabe and is receiving the best medical care. He has been in the Intensive Care Unit at Children's Medical Center of Dallas and will be moved to a different floor today. I am not sure of his injuries but he is going to be fine. I thank you for keeping David in your prayers.
Peace, RED

How many must get hurt or killed before the City of Plano changes these lights? This is a safety issue for our children that is ignored by the City of Plano Traffic and Engineering Department. I have tried, with the full support of Gulledge Elementary and Robinson Middle school principals to have the school zone light changed appropriately (from 8AM to 7:15AM) for the intersection of Coit and Denham (6-lanes of traffic). I was told by the City of Plano Engineering Department that high school students should have enough cognitive ability to be able to cross a street safely and that elementary students should take the bus that is provided and no school zone accomodations will be made for elementary or middle school students that need to attend school early or late for required activiies! The elementary schools are required to open doors for students at 7AM but the City will not change school zone lights for this requirement. Even if only one child crosses the street for school at 7:30 in the morning they should be allowed to cross in safety!

This is a terrible terrible accident! But it was obviously an accident. Bottom line- a crossing guard is needed (3 accidents in the past year???) and ALL kids must must must wear helmets! Let's pray for the boy, that he makes a complete recovery. And pray for the driver, let's face it, we've all been in "close calls" in our cars- this is a terrible thing for all involved!

I have myself crossed the interesection several times and have also taken the same turn while driving. Both as a pedestrian and a driver, I have had some scary experiences. I personally think that it is becuase the traffic lights on that intersection are not set right. I have had a green to turn left while driving and I have noticed that there are pedestrians still crossing meaning that they do not get enough time to cross the street. Also a left arrow for drivers turning North would tremendously help.

Yes ma'am I do work a full time job, go to school and when school isn't in session I work a second job. My husband has 2 jobs ,a day and night job. We know what our children are capable and not capable of. They have never had any broken bones, been seriously hurt or lost. I just think we should be more involved with our children that is all.
