Commercial simi truck noise (engine/engin brake noise)

I know that in the city of Denham Springs it is unlawful to use simi truck engine brakes. That is a very good thing. Truck drivers do no respect the public with all the noise polution that they produce today. I know that some drivers purposely make noise. All you have to do is moniter any road/hy16 in Livingston Parish you will see. Fire works !! thats just seasonal. Commercial trucks we have ignored the noise so long we dont hear it any more. when/how can we get a parish ordinace aginst commercial truck noise. Wake up Watson/Livingston parish residence!! open your ears !! lets stop this polution!!

mr .little did you know that the engine brake is used as the main braking system to keep from heating up the brakes to the point they fail, if the brakes fail you can't stop at all.. so alittle noise or someone getting run over,hmmmmmmmm

I have always laughed at people who push for stricter and stricter laws against what they think is pollution of the ears or air.

With the new pollution law Kalifornia is set to pass against car emmissions, I personaly will laugh if the automakers refuse to meet this unlawful emission laws and refuse to sell vehicles to them. Give it 10 or so years and we will see how that law works out, Specialy if truckers refuse to deliver goods there

Jerry, you are imcorrect when you said that engine brakes (or Jake brakes) are used as the "main braking system" in commercial trucks. The main brake system on a tractor is the air brake. Compnies can purchase Jake brakes and have them installed on the trucks. They can even have them installed at the dealer when they buy the truck. But, they aren't the primary system. I lived in Denham for 13 years prior to moving to West Virginia (where the use of Jake brakes is very common) and I don't know of any area in Denham where the grade is so steep that a truck shouldn't be able to stop by using its' air brakes. I have driven trucks and have never needed to use a Jake brake (engine brake). There are places where they would be needed, but not on flat roads. The use of engine brakes is appealing to truck drivers down south because they save on wear of the brakes at the wheels, thus saving maintenance costs. An engine brake will not stop a tractor - it will only slow it down. Much like not pressing the clutch when stopping a manual transmission car. It;ll slow the vehicle down by using the compression from the engine, but it won't stop the vehicle unless it stalls the motor.

How about slowing down before you have to come to a stop. Or is that to simple an answer.

engine, brakes are to bring simitrucks to a slow rate of speed, base on the gear. that the drive is using. it help us slow down before puting the tire's on fire, and entering a jack nife. and taking life's

If he drove around in one of those trucks he find out what it like to use those Jake Brakes instead of other brake .But alot have nothing to do but set behind the computer and complain as always

well i'm a truck driver who sometimes hauls from mire's pit in d s. the truck that has no mufflers are the ones making all the noise, not the one's with mufflers, thank you

hey, know it alls, mufflers with jakes is not the problem, it's the one's without mufflers i'm a trucker that hauls from mires pit at times. p.s stop pulling out in front of me you jackasses, then you won't hear me!
