My name is Keith , I am the father of a 17yr old girl named Ariel. She is a player for the Deltona Little League and is suffering a great injustice. This is Ariel's final year to play in Little League and she is not being allowed to play in the State Tournament in FT Meyers, Fl. due to the miss direction that our previous president made. My daughter is being denied to play. We live in the Lake Helen Little League jurisdiction and the league new this for the past 2 seasons. The reason that we play in Deltona is due to the fact that Lake Helen has never had a Senior Girls Softball Team. The president had directed other council members to fill out the improper paperwork for my daughter and now she is not able to play. The council had all the way up to the June 7th to send off the proper paperwork and they did not. At no time did the league advise me that a form needed to be filled out nor that I had missed a step by registering my daughter directly with Deltona Little League.
I have tried to get ahold of the President of Deltona with no results. I have tried to email her and try to reach her by phone and she has never returned either. I have spoke to the another council member over the past month and have several emails from them stating that they have made the mistake, but they had the boys baseball teams to worry about and that there was nothing that they can do. This was very sad for me to hear that a Organization that promotes that they are there for the children and that promote the development of youth is not willing to assist. I have also called the local director for the Little League in our area and he has told me that there is nothing that he will do to help. His statement to me was we did not fill out the proper paperwork and have missed the deadline. I advised him that this was my daughters last year and that she should not be made to suffer. He stated that that was to bad and NO! I have called the Southern Regional Division which is the next step above him and they have advised me the same thing. I then asked them who to call next above them and they told me the Little League in PA. I then proceeded to call them and ask what could be done, the gentleman stated that the president only from my Little League could fill out a paper and explain the situation and that it would be looked at, but she will not accept my means of communicating with her to advise her of this. The tournament is on July 18th,2008 and the time is getting short. I don't know if the League is choosing not to help because my daughter is Hispanic or the fact that she is a female, or both. The League doesn't even have any money to pay for the girls team to go to the tournament. The girls are having to raise all the money for the trip and for the uniforms. So if the parents don't come up with the money or if they do not raise the money they will not be able to go. The Deltona Little League still has not paid for their uniforms from the regular season. I believe that this is a injustice for both my daughter and for the team. I am requesting anyones assistance to maybe get the people that are supposed to be there for the children to help me with my daughters situation. My daughter loves to play and should not be punished because some adults choose not to do the right thing. |

As a person that played baseball for deltona little also someone that volontered my time to coach and help out in anyway for the little league i am very upset to see a parent go through the term oil that some kids have went thru in the past but it should be known it isnt the act of one board member that caused a whole problem in this injustice their was many behind the back drop of a "perfect little league" for example boardmembers that do nothing!, thefts, immature parents and many other things including members of the organization that we are soppose to bring these kind of problems to! as a 17 year old that could not play baseball due to the fact of no big league I seen all that went on alot of people in that league choose to have these problems but when you are a person that doesnt have any kids in the little league system and still choose to particitpate i think we should give them alot of credit even though they do not know every thing that is soppose to go on! but life did go on we fix the problems at hand but agian when we have people in this world that would put blame on a person that they did not imform! their are alot of two faced people in district 19 that should not be there for the sake of little league. Once agian i am sorry for the problem that happen but we can not!!! blame one person that was a big success to the way vann park looks today!

My name is Monica, and my daughter has also suffered a great injustice. She is 11 years old and has played on the major league for the past 5 seasons or so. When she first started, she was put on a team that mainly had all tenured players and so for that she didnt get to play that much which in the begining was very understandable. As time went on, we thought she would be able to start playing more, but never really seem to get that chance. She has alway been one of the littlest ones, but has never ever given up or stopped trying. She was always on time for every practice and on time and attended every game. She was 100% dedicated. Through all this time, my daughter has left several games to get into the car and be in tears sometimes because time after time she would watch the majority of the team play every single inning and she would never get to do that. I would ask her if she still wanted to play, and she always said yes, she never wanted to give up. Now the time has come for all star tryouts. My daughter attended everyday, and was on time and put 100% into it like always. The coach that she currently has recruited 3 players from Lake Helen even though we already had enough girls in Deltona to try out, and after all of my daughters commitment and dedication to not only her team, but also to Deltona Little League, she was not chosen to play on the all star team. My daughters self esteem has been crushed. It is very hard to try and explain to an 11 year old little girl who put 100% of herself to this team why she didn't make it, but three other girls who dont even live in Deltona, and never even played with her team did. It is so wrong! The so called "coach" says that it was because she is going on vacation at the end of July, but that is just a cop out. There were 14 girls all together to try out and three of them were the ones from Lake Helen. His mind was already made up before they even tried out. I even told him that I would be willing to drive back for the games if any took place during that week since I would only be in New Symrna. He also does not even have the schedule yet so they don't even know if there will even be a game during the few days that we will be at the beach. Its just really sad that my daughter has had such a negative experience with this League. She wont be able to look back and remember "that special coach". She will only be able to remember how hurt she got. I have two daughters, and neither one of them will ever play for this league again.

All the girls on the Deltona team should be entitled to play before any recruits from Lake Helen are chosen. This is The Deltona Little League. The league is wrong for allowing this to happen. The coach has crushed your daughters self esteem and the league is responsible also for permitting it. Shame on them.

Keith - a couple of points.
First, I know this is slightly late. Second, I am sorry that your daughter went through this. As a past member of the Deltona Little League Board I 100% feel your frustration. Although Lake Helen LL does what it can to serve the children of Lake Helen, it's such a small league and typically cannot field more then 1 team per league. As much as I hate to say it, I think it should be absorbed into the neighboring leagues!! The boundries have changed so many times moving Deltona residents into a league that can barely put full teams together!! It really isnt fair to the kids that live in Deltona and are forced to register at lake Helen!! Off my soap box... The Lake Helen Little League could have completed the necessary paperwork by waving your daughter to play at Deltona. This would have made her eligible for tournaments. Deltona Little League should have stepped up and made the attempt to get it taken care of |

Is this the Jennifer that is currently on the board? |

LOL....I would agree with this statement in most life situations...but in this instance, the parent wouldn't have been able to do anything about it. It was the 100% responsibility of the board to get the proper paperwork in order for this child. |
