Less lethal has it's uses, but also has many downsides. Watching LE first hand with Stun guns you can quickly get back up and a large male can quickly take over a woman running in anything other then running shoes. They don't help through any barriers, and you have to already be way to close. 21ft with a knife you won't stop anyone.

Tasers give you one shot and they already are making shirts that defeat them.(I have not seen statistics where criminals are using them much yet)

Hopefully the people using less then lethal weapons realize they are taking on people using lethal weapons and they are at a disadvantage.

I used to play papparazzi and researched the Florida statues a lot as I wanted to carry something in case of an incident. Under Florida law, you can carry less than two ounces of 'chemical weapon' concealed without a permit. Most of the small pepper spray is less than that but the stuff in the police supply stores is more.

It's good to see people taking self defense seriously... but considering "less lethal" weapons without considering handguns is only a ~start~.

Simply put, my feeling is that if you are not willing to kill someone who is willing to kill you, you are in a screwed-up mindset, and you may, in your desire to not "be forced to kill someone," end up getting killed, yourself. And then, if you were around to ask about it, would you say that getting yourself killed was worth sparing the life of your attacker so that HE gets to go on living?

Get a gun, or accept being vulnerable. These people who spent $350 for a ONE-SHOT PRAYER are just... IDIOTS.

Yep...errr NO...

Less lethal only if you consider I used mag-safe rounds mixed with the usual. the mag-safe rounds will sort "explode" inside the first person it hits, not pass through walls and hit someone else.

A nice budget carry weapon is the Taurus .38 5 round. It's the minimal round you'd want for stopping power and it's both light and easy to carry. Some people aren't always pleased with Taurus products but I have been very happy with them. They've made big improvements in quality. If you buy one, here's to hoping you never have to put it to the test.

Ladies and gents, don't mess around with useless tasers, stun guns and pepper spray. Determined criminals usually work in teams and will more than likely overcome any self-defense product. The smart ones are usually aware that people can carry sprays and tasers and like a predator they often plan their attack with that contingency in mind.

Your best and SAFEST bet is a small concealable hand-gun. Most criminals do not expect their "prey" to carry one. That's why they are so effective as a crime deterrent. I recommend something in a .380 or 9mm caliber. The Walther PPK is my personal favorite. It's small, compact, lightweight, easy to handle\shoot and has a double-action. Very accurate and easy to clean too (James Bond used this model gun by the way). German or Swiss made handguns are usually the best and most reliable because of their precision. If they are too pricey there are several good American manufacturers to choose from as well. All in all, you can't go wrong with a dependable handgun. Stopping power is critical. Any approaching criminal (or gang)that tries to approach you will think twice when you pull one out of your purse or from a hidden holster. They know that if they make a run at you, at least one of them most likely will be killed or maimed for life. As much as prison doesn't scare these people, imminent death or a lifetime in a wheelchair does. Believe me.

Unfortunately, there will always be people in this world who are just plain evil and don't value human life. They would kill you for a $5.00 bill and think nothing of it. Or they are some rapist looking for defenseless victim. The only counter measure against this level of evil is lethal force. If the police are not there and cannot protect you, your only hope and lifesaver is a gun. Anything else is just playing with your life. I look at people with pepper spray and tasers as the same kind of people who tape their window before a hurricane. It doesn't work. It never has and it never will.

What about a high powered BB gun?

It costs a lot less to reload...

Couldn't have said it better myself. Get a permit and byt a keltec .32 cal automatic. This tiny gun holds 7 shots and fits in the palm of your hand. Easily fits in a pant pocket or a purse.Does not have immense killing power like a Glock .40 cal but still will stop an assailant.

A false sense of security is all these products have to offer...

If your about to be assaulted or killed, why wouldn't you want to kill the other person first?

Buy a gun and know that you have a real defensive weapon, your life may depend on it...

Use one of these el-cheapo stun guns on someone and they will be so pissed off after they get up you are in a world of trouble if you don't have something far more lethal to offer...

Say you have a 250lb guy coming at you with a butcher knife...Would you want to trust a daisy red rider BB gun to stop him...I sure wouldn't!

If thats your choice of weapons get the rifle...At least you can attempt to club him with it when the BBs fail to pierce the skin...

Might be good for bringing down flying palmetto bugs, but that's about it.

For the price of a decent high-powered BB gun, you may as well save a little extra and buy a real gun that would provide some minimal stopping power. It's your life, and I'd seriously recommend you consider something more effective to protect it.

The whole thing with tasers, pepper spray and such is that in order to effectively employ them, you need to be within melee range. Usually the enemy's already engaged at that point and you're ducking a bat, knife or brass knuckles. Tough to get them to hold still for a minute so you can use the darn thing...

I agree with most of the above comments......."have a gun"....beware of the one gun man.....I like the Glock family........But some people and most women will never get a gun, so these are better than nothing.. If it were me and I can't carry a gun which you legally can't in Schools and other prohibited places " Thank you Liberal socialist criminal supporters" I would carry both of them a taser and a good pepper spray device as back up. One of the best pepper spray devices is
http://www.life-act.com/ I own the JPX.
Read the info ladies and if you don't want a gun get trained buy and extra one and try it out so you know what to expect.
