Losing a child has got to be one of the most unbearable things that could ever happen in life.
And what's worse, I'm sure there is a line of lawyers stretching around this woman's block to take 40% of her child's worth.
Also, the crib was probably made in China.

I feel sorry for the child, but what kind of person would put their child in a duct taped crib? That kid was old enough to sleep in a another type of bed. I think there's more to this story besides poor people living on $1500.00. Previous articles said other people were living in the house, can't they contribute?

If the crib was broken there are other ways than duct taping it together. Putting the mattress on the floor would have been safer. This is not a good example of a recalled crib gone bad. That fact is ancillary to the fact that the crib was not in good shape to begin with. I know if I was their neighbor and I knew that this was happening I would've gone out and bought them a new crib to avoid things like this from happening. The child was also old enough to have made some type of noise.... purely speculation but is the child was trying to get out of the crib that badly there would've been noise.
All in all, a very sad story.

What a bunch of white trash. How many of them are living off the grandma's disability and living in one house? Bunch of lazy slobs couldn't even work enough to buy the baby a safe crib. I blame them completely, NOT the crib manufacturer. But of course, they'll hire a pit bull lawyer who will sue the pants off the company that manufactured the crib, and then they'll be white trash with money.

I was worried about things like this when we purchased cribs for our twins. The drop-rail ones make it easier to get the baby in and out of the bed and change the sheets etc, but the ones with the sides that don't go down are safer for the babies. It's just my opinion, but I think it eliminates a lot of potential hazards.

I hated myself reading the article and feeling a bit like this too. I reread it several times. Something is very wrong with this story. Even a $40 (that's what you can buy one for new) portable playyard crib would have been safer than this duct-taped death trap. This poor baby

You no good hooker! You have no idea what it is to live like that. This is my family you are talking about. My mother has 4 types of cancer and is dying. My sister the mother of Serenity was a good mother working 2 jobs to support her daughter. My younger brother and sister are in school they are only 17 and 16. So they dont work. Before you post a response get your facts straight! My sister was a single mother and money was tight with paying for my moms medical treatments. I live in New York and I wasnt there but it was not there fault it was the crib peoples fault. if you have any more comments you can contact me directly at csbabygirl8242gmail.com .

My niece was 2 year old and could climb out of the playyard and it was too small for her. My family owned one and it wasnt big enough for her to sleep comfortably. YOU PEOPLE HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT IS LIKE TO LOSE A CHILD. DONT MAKE COMMENTS YOU HAVE NO IDEA THE WAY A SITUATION IS.

I agree totally. It's always said when a child dies needlessly, but there are too many pieces missing from this puzzle. Where's daddy and child support? It's interesting that grandma -- at 41, no less - is on disability.

If money's so tight, how come you have time to noodle around online? We ain't buying the four different types of cancer either. A tyke that age should sleep on a crib mattress on the floor and be safer than that silly set-up.

When this story came out, there was a toddler bed waiting for the child to go into. Why would you put the child in a broken taped up crib instead of a toddler bed already in the house?
Where is dad? Or don't we know who the father is? Why isn't he paying child support if money is so tight? The mother has live in babysitters so where is the money from her two jobs going. Earlier articles said she was going to school fro nursing? She can pay for college but can't support her daughter & herself without moms disability check? Not adding up here...
What this comes down to is this is a 20 year old mother that couldn't afford a condomn, raised to believe disability & welfare is the way to go & feels comfortable putting her child in a taped up crib. Everyone else in the house didn't have the common sence either to think this may be dangerous. Poor decisions being facilitated through generation to generation. Must admit, sounds like white welfare trash to me...

who duct tapes a crib??? the fact that the crib was recalled is a different story---but probably not the sole cause of the child's death..its the parents' neglect and obvious lack of common sense that did.

I live in New york. Im married with children of my own and I work full time. Thats how I have money to screw around online. My mom has breast lymph node, lung cancer and was just diagnosed with brain cancer 3 months ago. So I could care the fuk less if you believe it. My niece preferred the crib to the toddler bed.
