So, my friend, how long have you and your husband lived in Pompano Beach? I've been here 6 yrs, but I have lived here before (for about 10).
Does your husband like being a grandpa the way you love being a grandmother? You seem very hip for a grandmother! I think I'm about 20 yrs younger than you, but you're more "with-it" than I am.
January will make 20 years we are here. Actually, my husband is my ex-husband, but we talk & get along. I'm not sure if he is as thrilled with being a grandpa since wife #3 keeps him away from the ones that live right here in Broward County. She complains about his kids while her kids hung the moon & the stars. My daughter has said when my time & her mother-in-law's time comes to leave this Earth, the kids will be affected, not so much for him as they hardly know him. Kinda sad.

Thanks for thinking of me as a hip grandma. I try to keep up with the things my grandchildren are into - Spongebob Squarepants & Wolverine are the currents favorites. I like taking my grandson on a GG & Me date. We'll go to McDonalds or Wendy's for lunch, then off to the movies. We like the Magnolia in Coral Springs. Nice stadium seating. He's already hinting for "Planet 51", which will open for Thanksgiving.

Indeed, divorce impacts children the most. That is sad. The children are hardly considered in these matters ... Anyway, it's more important for kids to have bonds with parents more than grandparents anyway. I do believe that grandparents is an enriching experience for both the grandkids and grandparents. However, when the grandparents are raising them and/or bonding more than the parents, it changes the relationship for sure.

Tell me about Planet 51! Have you been to Betty Stradling Park in Coral Springs? I've taken my boy there several times.

Here is the plot to "Planet 51" - American astronaut Captain Charles "Chuck" Baker lands on Planet 51 thinking he's the first person to step foot on it. To his surprise, he finds that this planet is inhabited by little green people who are happily living in a white picket fence world, and whose only fear is that it will be overrun by alien invaders...like Chuck!

I have been to Betty Stradling Park for the free concerts they used to run once every month. I believe the concerts were on the third Saturday of each month. It has been awhile since they've had one. I guess it's too expensive for the City of Coral Springs to run these days.

Hmm, Planet 51 sounds interesting. You sound like you're familiar with all of Broward County ... like me. How well do you know the south part of the county (Hollywood, Miramar ...)? I know it fairly well; I had lived & worked there at one time, but I like the north a little better.

This seems like a safe, talking forum. It's semi-private, isn't it Gail? I'm almost tempted to tell you my real name and my wife's too. It'll happen soon. I've told "Mrs. Logston" about my unusual friendship with you. Like me, she has a soft spot in her heart for those who are direct descendents of Abraham.

This being Veteran's Day, do you have close friends or relatives who are veterans?

Hello "Bobby": My ex-husband served in the Navy around the time of Vietnam. I don't believe he saw active combat.

I prefer North Broward, too. Several years ago I drove a co-worker home to Hollywood, even though I lived in Pompano Beach. I didn't mind the drive, but the streets were flooded. Reminded me of growing up in Queens, NY. My neighborhood, especially the streets I had to walk to go to the school bus stop were low-lying streets that flooded after every rainstorm. The street I lived on was built higher than the others, so it did not flood.

Happy to hear "Mrs. Logston" is aware of our friendship.

I got to baby-sit my grandchildren last night for a few hours. I forgot to take the picture of Spongebob Squarepants that Josh drew for me. He also did a picture of Patrick Starfish on the other side.

Did you hear that Michael Brewer asked for french fries and a milkshake yesterday? That is wonderful news. Sounds like something a fifteen year old would want to eat.

Yes, I read it in the news yesterday. Poor kid. I'm glad these suspects are being tried as adults.

Also, I'm getting tired of hearing about how "wonderful" and "respectful" one of the suspects were. I'm a proponent of "your actions says more about you than words."

My father-in-law served during the Vietnam War, & he was also in a non-combat capacity. Hey, he's still a veteran & was proud of having left the military on excellent terms.

So, you'll be at the Jazz Brunch on the 1st week of Dec., right!

By the way, you're right about Hollywood and the flood. By the way, my son was born there (Hollywood Regional). Indeed, a memorable day! I hope to share that with you some day!

I agree with you about "Actions speaking louder than words". Maybe because Bent held all those jobs, he was able to become a middle-school loan shark. My understanding of this crime is because Michael owed Bent $40.00 he borrowed for a video game. Michael didn't pay in time, so Bent tried to steal Mr. Brewer's custom bicycle. Michael called 911 to report the theft of the bike and Bent got the other boys to help in retailiation.

Your father-in-law didn't run to Canada with his tail between his legs. He did luck out with not having to see active combat. Kinda like my uncle was NYPD. He lucked out with working for the Property Clerk. He had his picture in the paper when some wise guy decided to pay a traffic ticket with pennies. He also worked at the Impound Lot in College Point, NY.

I expect to be at the Jazz Brunch on Sunday 12/6. We sit under the trees by the Esplande, across the street from the IMAX theatre.

Shalom!

Nice to come home (from my 2nd job), have a nice dinner (almost ready, I'll have it after writing you).

My wife will be at a church ladies' gathering tomorrow morning, so I'll be with my son. I'll likely take him to a park.

How was your Friday? So, what other topics do you comment on? I try to find anything that has to do with parenting, especially as a advocate for kids' need to have at least one parent at home (mostly mothers).

Good Morning. It's seems this is the only one that moved over to Topix. I post thru Sun-Sentinel. They changed the way people can comment on the news. They used to use this one (Topix) but changed it a couple of months ago. Not too happy with the changed since you cannot click on "reply" to address someone's comment directly. You have to copy & paste now. Ugh!

The weather has been spectacular since Thursday. You will have a wonderful time with Joshua outside today. No getting all sweaty while simply standing still. Friday was just another day at the office.

Hope you enjoyed your dinner. It always feels good to get home after a hard day at work. Work is one of those dirty 4-letter words. Lol!:-)

Have a fun day with Joshua. I'm at work...again. Seems I never escape. "Talk" to you later.

I liked it, too, when one was able to post directly through the Sun-Sentinel. I'm guessing the SS was getting fed up with the negative comments people were making about the publication, so it made it either harder. Also, the paper is wanting people to "register", but I think that's a way to get closer to not being anonymous. I'm just guessing!

I agree with you about W-O-R-K. I hope we can learn what each other do. I like what I do, but "I work to live" not "live to work".

I'd rather be a great husband and father and a decent worker than the other way around. I generally like my job(s), but I'm far from being a workaholic. Some of my colleagues are just the opposite, and I don't want to be like that.

In a few minutes, my wife and toddler are off to a colleague's 5-yr-old birthday party in a Davie park.

Stay in touch!

Today is a perfect day for a birthday party in the park. The sun is shining, the weather is cool-but not cold.

I like my job. I've been here 15 years this past July. I like the perks, too. Pay is what it is. I have to work because there is no one else to pay my bills. My mother passed last year and if I hold my breath waiting for my brother aka the executor to send me money, I'll turn blue. So it's a good thing that I like my job and most of the people I work with.

I remember people calling the Sun-Sentinel crude names, which I won't repeat but I'm pretty certain you can guess. You still have to register (I noticed you haven't) here and with the SS.

I just noticed something--the full story is dated for my birthday, Oct 13th.

Hello Gail,

There were many other kids' birthday parties at the park besides the one we went to; the weather was indeed wonderful. I may have told you it was the birthday of my colleague's daughter.

You won't tell your job either? Not here at least, right!

Where approximately in Pompano do you live? We live off Atlantic Blvd.

I'm sorry about your mother, & the way your brother is appearing to withhold what's rightfully yours. My mother also died about 15 years ago; my wife's mother died earlier this year ... It felt like it was my own mother, and neither reached 62. How old was your mother?

I can look back and be grateful for the love and guidance I had from Mom and Dad; even as a kid, I was aware of how available and totally involved they were with me and my siblings. I definitely can't complain a thing about my childhood. I wish it to ALL kids, and I'm doing everything I can to pass that along to my son!

Hello Gail,

I hope everything is fine. Haven't heard from you in a while. I guess I got used to corresponding with you.

My family recently had a scare, but thank goodness it turned out to be a false alarm. We had thought our son accidently swallowed a pill of "Mrs. Logston" blood-pressure control medicine. It turned out he hadn't ... What a lesson to learn the hard way!

Hello Bobby,
Things are ok. Just getting pretty busy at work. Some additional hours available as everyone has to use their pto before the end of the year. A use it or lose it deal. In fact, I'll be taking all of next week off. I can catch up on all the programs on my DVR. LOL!
I'm glad it was only a close call. I always believe the hardest learned lessons stay with us always. Phew!
What are your plans for Thanksgiving? I will be with my daughter. We're even having a pre-Thanksgiving dinner with some people who will be out of town on Thursday.

Why aren't you commenting of these 5 monsters instead of picking on us? If you notice, no one else is commenting on this Forum.

The 3 that are being charged as adults plead Not Guilty in court today. As far as I am concerned, they are all GUILTY of pre-meditated attempted murder. They brought the alcohol, they brought the lighter. They planned their mission to hurt Michael Brewer. Michael's life will never, ever be the same and neither should these monsters lives be the same. They need to be as severely punished as Michael's life has been severely changed for the worst. That poor child is no where out of the woods yet.

Hi Gail,

We're not really sure what we'll do on Thanksgiving. By the way, it is my favorite holiday. We get fortunate enough to get invited by colleagues or friends from church ... ha ha, so we're waiting.

It'll be a tough Thanksgiving for the Brewers, won't it. Did you see the parents get interviewed by CBS-4 News? They seem to handle things well; I don't think I'd be that calm ... I'd be enraged at those punks for doing what they did to my son!!! No telling what I would do; I could only hope that the Spirit of the Lord guide me in His Wisdom.

Looks like we have a "friend" join us at the forum. Do you think it's a man or a woman? I'm guessing a woman. I don't think we're talking nonsense, are we?

Gail, one of my friends with the same name as you was suffering chest pains and went to the hospital for observation. We went to see her, but she had been released. She hadn't gone to work since. I'm trying to tell her to not be anxious to return to work. She seems like too willing to return to a very stressful environment (I'll tell you at the Jazz Brunch ...)

Good Morning Bobby,
I agree with you about Thanksgiving & The Brewer Family. I did not see their interview on Ch 4. I believe they have a wonderful support system in place--friends, family & neighbors.

I even feel for the families of the 5 boys that did this to Michael, but they are where they are because of their own actions. I do agree that I would not know how I would react if, God forbid, this happened to one of my grandchildren. I cherish my freedom too much to do something that would land me in jail. I guess I would take my frustrations out on something non-living---beat some pillows, slam some doors. Maybe even a bit of screaming, but I wouldn't want my neighbors to freak out. LOL.

It does appear we have a new friend. I'm guesing female since the screen name is Ma Bell.

Make sure you have goodies to bring to your friends homes on Thanksgiving.

Please say hello to your friend, Gail. I wish her only good things for her return to work. Work is a necessary evil. LOL! Gotta go to work, to earn money to pay bills so we can eat and rest, only to go back to work to earn more money. And the wheel goes round and round.

Sorry about yesterday's quickie response. Suddenly it was time to go home. Whoopee!

Have a great day & we'll chat later.

Daily Horoscope for December 29

Sagittarius

It's difficult to keep your mind on what you're doing today because it keeps wandering off in all directions. There won't be much you can do about this except to be aware of it, and preferably to postpone doing anything very complicated or important until you're less distracted and absent-minded. Unfortunately, you won't get very far with it at the moment.
