DEER PARK TX POLICE OFFICER SHOOTS MY NEIGHBORS DOG AFTER HE VICIOUSLY ATTACKS OUR WONDERFUL MAIL MAN MICHAEL MEADS. AFTER OUR MAILMAN WAS ATTACKED DEER PARK POLICE ARRIVED 15 MIN LATER. WHILE INTERVIEWING MY NEIGHBOR ABOUT THEIR DOG THE DOG GOT OUT AGAIN AND RAN TOWARDS OUR MAILMAN AND HIS COWORKERS AND OTHER NEIGHBORS. I SEE THEM ALL SCATTER AS MICHAEL MEADS JUMPS IN BACK OF A PICK-UP AND THE OTHERS RUNNING FOR THEIR LIFE. AS THEIR DOG CAME AROUND THE CORNER HE SEES THE OFFICER AND HEADS HIS WAY. THE OFFICER PULLS OUT HIS WEAPON AND SHOOTS THE DOG AS HE APPROACHS. THE LITTLE BOY THAT LIVES AT THE HOUSE WEPT AS HE WITNESSED HIS DOG SHOT. THE OFFICER IN MY OPINION WAS JUSTIFIED. DEER PARK HAS A LEASH LAW AND ITS NEVER ENFORCED. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM. MICHAEL MEADS COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. IT BE NICE TO SEE YOU GUYS INVESTIGATE DEER PARK SO CALLED LEASH LAW. AFTER WITNESSING THIS ACCOUNT I HAVE A VERY ADMIRATION NOT JUST FOR MICHAEL MEADS BUT ALL MAILPERSONS DELIVERING OUR MAIL EVERYDAY. I PRAY OUR CARRIER IS OK. I HEARD IT WAS A BAD BITE.

typing in all caps and using bad grammar is annoying and makes posts hard to read.

If a dog gets out on its own, why do you expect to be on a leash. I do not ever remember seeing someone walking their dog in DP that did not use a leash.

Why do you refer to the mailman by his first and last name but do not mention the name of the others? Do you not know your neighbors and the boy.

Animal should have been called, not the police. I feel that the police reacted in the wrong way. I understand the dog was coming at them but there are different ways to handle situations like this. The police should have called animal control rather than killing the dog.

Obviously you have never called Animal Control in Deer Park…. You would be lucky if someone actually answered the phone, then you would spend 20 minutes explaining why you’re calling them (taking time out of their busy day), they would respond that they “would send someone”..... who would never show.
There are many complaints about Deer Park police officers (over) reacting instead of thinking in the performance of their jobs, but on this occasion (based on the information provided) I think the officer did the right thing.

I thought mailmen carried pepper spray.

What happens if you use a taser on a dog? Surely some of you Teabaggers have tried it on your pets.

you are correct. animal control seems to never show up and when they do they slap them on the wrist instead of enforcing leash law. does a person or kid have to die to wake up how serious this is. half the time the spray has no effect or you can't get to it in time. how many of us carry spray on us actually? none I'm guessing. I know what I'm talking about cause I was one of the people who ignored the having dog on a leash. They never fined my husband an i. then one day my terrier bit a child. not only did we get sued and homeowners settled we both live with the guilt of that child and his scars. I deserved what happened in court and living with guilt. so if anything keep your dogs inside and animal control if you are reading this be more aggressive in enforcing the law. I lived in California for 2 years when this happened and now they are more agressive. Texas should be too
