As crime seems to be trending down within the city, reports of individuals associated with the Ku Klux Klan have been reported in different parts of Deer Park passing out materials. Police report that at 2 a.m. on the morning of Jan. 3, the Deer Park Police Department took a call for service from a resident in the Palm Terrace neighborhood concerning materials being distributed. When police arrived, they saw no one passing out material. It has also been reported that material was passed out in the Running Brook neighborhood as well.

Concerning the Klan’s activity in the Deer Park area,“This is the first time that I can remember that we have had pamphlets passed out,” said Lt. Bryan Magee, who is a spokesman for the Deer Park Police Department.“We discourage passing the pamphlets out, not necessarily to sensor them,(the Klan) but we’re concerned about the safety of individuals when they are passing them out in the middle of the night.”

Magee said those responsible for the distribution of materials are not breaking any city laws since they are not making contact with residents.

In regards to any history of Klan activity in Deer Park, Lt. Magee points out that “I don’t remember a time when the Ku Klux Klan has ever tried to come into the city and recruit.”

The Ku Klux Klan has a history of activity in the gulf coast area, and in regards to them simply passing out material, they, like other groups and organizations are protected under the First Amendment of the United States Constitution. Flyers turned in by residents’ show this particular branch of the Klan has a registered P.O. Box in Pasadena. La Porte police also report similar activity occurring in their city limits as of lately.

Thanks for the Information must be. I do have a question for you though and that's is concerning this part of your statement: " As crime seems to be trending down within the city". Is this your observation or is this something that is presented as fact by the City? How are these two activities crime / KKK pamphlets related?

White supremacists and hate groups are protected by the First Amendment the same as everyone else.

Seriously, that's what makes America a great country.

dislike [dɪsˈla& #618;k]
vb
(tr) to consider unpleasant or disagreeable
n
a feeling of aversion or antipathy
dislikable , dislikeable adj

Hatred (or hate) is an intense feeling of dislike.

Racism is the belief that race is a primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race.[1] In the case of institutional racism, certain racial groups may be denied rights or benefits, or get preferential treatment.

too often dislike or hate is considered racisim; everyone has a right to their likes and dislikes and or opinions.

"or get preferential treatment." based on this the government is racist since they allow illegals to have preferential treatment by allowing them to break our law(s), fund and support them in many ways, and refuse to enforce the law of illegal entry to our country. Churches that harbor or support illegals would also be called racist in preferential support of those who violate our law.

Food for thought.

It's called "Freedom of Speech" and it's protected by the First Amendment, which not only includes the KKK, but the Black Panthers, La Raza, Aztlan and other racist groups, as well as any other citizen.

Of course, there are those who think that only "whites" can be racists.

By the same token, one might notice that left-loon liberals (mostly aligned with the Democrat party) are always quick to proclaim all conservatives or Republicans as racists and also proclaim that they should be silenced, which is also typical of socialist/communist regimes to squelch those who do not support their views.

I just think that anything that promotes racism should at least be discouraged and shooshed out of our city. Everyone on here hates everyone enough and causes enough grief without inviting more in!

And how do you propose to do that, without violating the rights that are provided to everyone under the Constitution?

To consider such actions against someone based on whether they agree with your ideas or sentiments, would be little more than the same type of rhetoric that other such extremist groups propose, in an effort to rid our country of those they don't approve of.

I finally got to see one of these flyers yesterday at my brother in laws. he lives right on the laporte side of underwood and said that it was thrown in his yard, inside a plastic bag with a rock. I told him not to worry about, it is just a guy named red dawn. then i realized i was the only one to get the joke.

The kkk has been in and out of deer park especially in the early 90's. The new KKK is diffrent than the old. But i dont think that they will ever lose that image. What concerns me alot more is the few skin head organizations around town. They have been growing and i think that is why the klan is recruiting. They are very much against the skin head organization ( i am not sure what the proper name is for them now ).

I think the 2nd paragraph explains it.

If a guy is delivering pamphlets door to door at 2am and someone happens to see him on their property.... I would imagine this could cause a problem.

What's different about the "new KKK"? DO the skin head organizations around town have a name? Your last 2 sentences are confusing. Are you saying the klan is recruiting as to save them from joining a skin head org.?

What exactly do you expect the police to say other than what they did? The Klan did not break any law on their books. If the police were to make up a law or stretch one in order to do something about the Klan, they would be seen as oppressive and out of line. The police are not charged with the task of regulating the realm of public opinion.

Magee said exactly what he needed to. Just because you don't agree with them (Klan) doesn't mean they don't have as much right as you do to profess your beliefs.

There are plenty of groups out there that are actully breaking the law these days that should worry about. The Klan are paper tigers these days.

It's a joke, DPTX. It's something one of my friends says all the time. I've never been rude of ugly to you, so please don't start to speak to/treat me the same way you speak to/treat everyone else.

I only responded to what you have posted and the sub-headline to your ID. I don't see where it was rude, as I did respond with facts before noticing the headline which indicated that you weren't interested in facts.

Now, are you attempting to curb my freedom of speech, as you indicated others should be restricted, by telling me how I can speak to you, as it seems that you wish to interpret my remarks as "ugly"?

Now, before you get upset, think about what I said, not how you think it was implied or directed at you. If everyone has to choose their words so carefully, from fear of how others might interpret them, this political correctness would be taken so far that one may never be allowed to voice any opinions or concerns. We could start adding a hell of a lot of words to the "banned" list.
