HB is the most unfriendly place I have ever been to in my life. Moving here was the by far the worst decision of my life. Here, you will find very unfriendly people that are completely unacceptable of others. Unless you were born and raised here, I suggest you do not even visit. I have brought friends and family here and received nothing but stares and snares. Do not visit this place or even think about living here, not only are there severe pollutants from the local factories (which are located right on Lake Huron), that make this area a high cancer rate ... but it has a constant chemical smell. Maybe that's why the residents of this hellish place are all so angry and unaccepting.

No, they'e just a bunch of people who have never been anywhere else than there. If they haven't seen you in church, bingo or are a known relitive, they probably have nothing to say to you and probably don't care to. It's a town of old people. The young that are there leave asap. If not, they just become shadows of their parents and bring up the next generation of anti-newbies.

Hey Shari, unless you grew up in Ubly or Argyle why don't you shut up. I did grow up in that area and people are very friendly unless you are from Detroit or other Big City because they are tired of these people moving in and trying to tell everyone how to run their lives or change how the people and their forefathers have lived for hundreds of years there and got by fine without city smartasses and their advice. Next time your in Argyle go to the Hardware and tell them you want to see Big Mac's brother and I'll explain things to you in person if you got the guts.

TJS-Do you realize you just threaten a woman with harm for having an opinion. This is what we mean. Anyone who patronize this business-Argyle Hardware- might want to go elsewhere as apparently it's manage by very hostile people. You don't even have the sence to realize you just made a threat that could put you in jail. Grow up and quit acting like a child.

TJS-Please note-The forefathers that lived there hundreds of years ago were indian. Most of that area is population that were immigrants from other countries that came in the past 150 years. This is why you need to go out and learn for yourself. Your ancesters are not informing you correctly and making you look foolish to others by mis-information clouded by fear. They don't want you to leave and you realize they are wrong about many things. The extreme example would be Jonestown. Look it up on the internet. They're people who are smarter than you and me-it doesn't make them asses. You don't make sence on that one. I lived in Saginaw for many years and did business in your area for a short time. I winessed so much prejudgement even that you have amoungst each other. No one really even seems to like each other either. It's sad really. This isn't normal behavior.

I never threatened anybody, since when is explaining something to people who insult my neighbors and relatives a threat. People here love their community the way it is, is that a crime. People from the outside have done harm to these communities so forgive if you come from nowhere and have no ties to anybody there and you are not immediately elected best thing since sliced bread.

So now if you live in a rural area you are all subject to being a like a Jonestown cult, how clueless are you. Your posts would be easier to read if you could spell correctly. I have seen other places in the country and still like Michigan best. I am glad you are in Arizona if you hate this place that much, do us all a favor and don't come back and we will all be happy in places we like.

It's like stepping back into the 50's and there is nothing wrong with that. Dow and Detroit Edison are on the lake and once in awhile there is a smell, not often, but can cause a stranger to wonder. The fishing is great, the small town USA is wonderful. Yes, everyone knows everyone and in today's scary world it's really nice not to be afraid. I lived about 600 mi north of here, in a small town called L'Anse There were so many crossed eyes up there it was scary. It's good when you folks from the cities don't like it here. That's fine with us.

Have had a cottage up there for 40years and my family is still not accepted by most of the locals. They know we live in the city so we are considered outsiders. They even try to blame the crime in the area on the city folk. They don't have any problems with us city folk spending are money in their businesses.

Hey Dave, let's figure this out what Metro Detroit resident's like to do when they come to the thumb: Trespass on private property with their snomobiles, 4wd trucks, motorcycles, etc. Trespass to go hunting Drive the local roads drinking or taking drugs because "I'm not home so it's OK to act irresponsibly" Complain about local taxes on property being too high when in fact people paying outrageous prices for vacation property tends to drive up everybody's assesments.

We live south of Detroit and I love to go to Harbor Beach for the day. It is much cleaner and kid friendly every time I have gone. I love the small town! I've been visiting Harbor Beach for the last 22 years and I've never had any problems, everyone is friendly IF YOU EXTEND YOURSELF FIRST, PEOPLE WILL RESPOND IN A LIKE MANNER. I think it's a GREAT town filled with very nice people.

I grew up in Harbor Beach, and I went away to large university in a fairly large town. I disagree. I have gotten away from this small town, and I will always love it. I will definetly want to raise my children in a place much like it on the future, and don't plan on being a "copy" of my parents, although they are wonderful as well. I also would like to point out that it may be small, but it is much better then being held at gunpoint or having your car stolen in a large city. Harbor Beach is a safe place where you know your neibors and hopefully have that connection to those around you. I would say you are lucky to have lived in such a beautiful place. Sounds like you have no appreciation for anything.

I have owned a place in Port Hope for the last eleven years and can say I have seen both sides. I do agree with Cindy. Human nature today tends to keep people apart today. I'm not sure why that is "now" the norm in today's fast paced world. I grew up in township on a dirt road mind you, 15 miles west of Detroit where all the neighbors knew everyone and everybody enjoyed getting together. Now that I'm older and some of the neighbors have changed so have their social interactions. It might be totally out of the mainstream to suggest that "people today" take a moment and have a real conversation with a neighbor or new acquaintance. Show some valued interest in the other persons experiences, background or history and you might find a common ground. I have a neighbor in Port Hope who is up and down towards me, even today. I was the last guy to purchase their and was not readily accepted. Not everyone can be easily swayed... It does take some effort. Anyway, I like the country atmosphere there and that outweighs life's little moments. Think about it.....
