I was given my job by a Muslim. A woman born in Iran, raised in England and educated in the United States. Her children are American citizens. She showed me a picture of their family Christmas tree the other day. While their religion may be Islamic, their values and traditions are FAR more American than a lot of other immigrants.
Another of my co-workers, a Shiite Muslim, gave me a Christmas gift last week and wished me a wonderful holiday. Christmas is not HER religious holiday, but how thoughtful of her to remember mine! Kind of made me feel like crap because I don't know enough about her religion to even know what holidays SHE celebrates.
My position requires that I work closely with people of all colors, faiths, ethniticities and sexual preferences. Before this job, I was kind of ignorant to these types of things and probably would have leaped on a bigot bandwagon if it drove by. That's why I say people who are bigots are probably very secluded or very unworldly. They've had very little one on one experience with the people they hate and demean.
It's like saying "I hate green beans" if you've never eaten any. You can say you hate them, but how do you really know if you've never had the experience of personally eating them?

If they're so all American, why don't we hear about any of them protesting the violent acts by Muslims in this country and elsewhere? Why don't we hear them saying that in good faith fellowship with other Americans they won't build their mosque/community center in whistling distance of Ground Zero?
I'm not sure why they want to be here in the US anyway. Oh, yeah, there's money to be made here and hopefully Sharia Law won't stand when the wife is raped or the daughter wants to wear designer jeans.
